I have waited to write this review after visiting this store numerous times to get a feel for what it is like on a regular basis, as well as not write it strictly based on emotions. I do not live locally and drive two and a half hours to visit the store. As others have mentioned, I have shown up twice on separate weekends (both on a Saturday) to find the store closed during normal business hours, long before the store was set to close. In both cases there was no notice on the door or internet pages that indicated a reason for closure, and no answer to the phone or a message on the answering machine to indicate what was going on. I had to get a local family member to pick up my online order on another random day of the week and make another trip to Knoxville to collect it from them.
The first visit was fine, but subsequent visits (when the store was actually open) did not feel as welcoming. My most recent visit was about a month or so ago. I brought in a set that a family member gave me as a gift for my birthday. I already had the set but accepted it as I had been told I could exchange it at the store as long as it was still new/sealed. When I went into the store, I asked about exchanging the set and was told that they can’t exchange without a receipt. This was disappointing, but not that big of a deal. The main issue was right after I was told this, the associate saw a barcode sticker on the back of the box and informed me in a condescending manner that it didn’t come from that store anyway. This was very embarrassing as all the customers in the store stopped and stared at me like I had done something terrible. I left and spoke with my family member who did some digging and found that they had purchased it from somewhere else and told me wrong.
Being made to feel awful for an honest mistake along with unreliable store hours and a lack of variety of in-stock items leads me to not be able to recommend this store to any other potential customers.
My rating is 1 out of 5. 1 – strongly don’t recommend 2 – don’t recommend 3 – neutral 4 – recommend 5 –...
Read moreGreat customer service. Good crowd. I saw the name and assumed general nerd shop, and check it out.
Nope, it's a fully dedicated Warhammer exclusive shop. Mentioned I had never played but open to the idea of it (I mean, I love DnD, MtG and EotE and the like) since I was looking for a new way to meet people. New to the area and all. He gave the whole spiel on the history of Warhammer and all the various ways to enjoy it.
When he saw I was eyeing 40k over the fantasy, he mentioned a few players by name that were his '40k experts' and when they are normally in and playing. He also mentioned that there was an event a couple days out and that if I was serious about wanting to learn, it'd be a great day to stop by.
Sure enough, I stopped by and met all the shop regulars. All great people who had a lot of experience and enthusiasm about someone else playing.
And at the end of it all, I was never pushed to buy a single thing. Only to meet the other people that play and see what I think before I...
Read moreHave been to this store twice and both times the person running the place (same person) is pretty much dismissive of a new person interested in playing, pretty no patience for questions. Went in this evening and was waiting for the wife to walk over from earthfare as I was planning to buy a $190 item but needed to verify it was good to go. This was at 6:37 and they close at 7.
He reminded me he was getting ready to close even after I told him she was coming. Said he didn’t want to rush me but he was getting ready to close so he was clearly rushing me. I guess based on other reviews of never being open and him basically rushing me even though there was a half hour to go. I guess they don’t need to make any money. I’ll go anywhere else or order online before I go in there again. Unprofessional and way to...
