Indulging in the flavors of my homemade Indian cuisine has always been a joy, deeply rooted in lessons from two remarkable women—one from India and the other from Bangladesh. Growing up amidst New York's vibrant culinary scene, renowned for its exceptional Indian fare, my standards are high. Today, my husband and I embarked on a late lunch adventure that surpassed all expectations.

We began with the Fish Pakora appetizer—a tantalizing blend of perfectly seasoned breading that rendered chutney unnecessary, yet it complemented the dish impeccably. Each bite was a harmonious symphony of spices, delivering a sensory journey that delighted our palates.

For our mains, we savored the Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Korma, both masterfully prepared and utterly exquisite. The Vindaloo packed a punch with its robust flavors, while the Korma offered a rich, creamy indulgence that left us longing for more.

No Indian feast is complete without naan, and theirs was a revelation—a heavenly, garlic-infused delight that perfectly complemented the aromatic curries.

Amidst the culinary bliss, the only minor hiccup was the dim lighting, making the menu challenging to decipher. Yet, once our dishes arrived, words became irrelevant as our taste buds danced in ecstasy.

In essence, our experience transcended mere dining—it was a journey through flavors and memories, a testament to the artistry and passion behind each dish. This restaurant has firmly secured its place in our hearts as a haven of authentic Indian cuisine, where every bite tells a story and every meal is an unforgettable...

We're new here. I'm from Seattle and my husband is from a small town in Mississippi, where we've been living together for 5 years. I missed all the good cultural food from my hometown, I was so excited to knock off real Indian food because my curry is delicious, but just not authentic and never will be. I was struggling with my toddler which definitely prolonged the ordering process but once we ordered drinks, we sat there parched for at least 30 minutes. Our samosas then took about the same amount of time to come out. And then we had to wait again for about the same amount time for two small bowls of vindaloo and curry with a mound of rice to come out. My curry tasted fine, and my husband seemed to enjoy his vindaloo. But we decided to stop eating when a cockroach crawled down the wall, 1 ft away from my baby. The next day (like, literally right now) my husband and I are currently trying to ease the worst gut rot, gas, and diarrhea. This is not due to my weak genetics and not being able to process Indian spices, which I've heard people say before. I've had Indian food all my life and never gotten a stabbing pain I'm my abdomen unless it was improperly prepared, improperly handled, cross contaminated, or expired.

I wanted to like this place so much and support a foreign local business, but I guess we'll keep hunting for our perfect Indian spot.

Sorry guys, we...

I've never ordered from the Bombay menu, but I've eaten at the buffet several dozen times in the years since the restaurant opened. It can be hard to counsel someone on Indian food because the taste is so unique. However, I can say that if you like the typical Indian buffet, you will probably like Bombay.

Indian buffets tend to be less spicy than menu food, so if you aren't big on having your mouth burn, you might still give Bombay a shot. The buffet is small, but the variety of options is excellent. There are usually two spinach-based dishes, two chicken-based, two miscellaneous dishes, and several side/appetizer options. The sag (spinach) items are always good and not too spicy for those who are looking for something mild. I usually go for one sag and one chicken, the best of which is chicken curry.

Two buffets, a water, and a soda runs around $24 plus tip, which is not bad for the quality. The service is polite and swift with drink refills.

The actual restaurant is nicely decorated with typical Indian things - elephants, cultural sites, cities. Some of the furniture is pretty old but everything is in good condition.

Overall, Bombay is probably my second favorite Indian restaurant in the Knoxville area and a great conclusion to a morning of shopping at...

I'm super cautious about the ethnic restaurants I eat at, and this was a special occasion, so I was even more worried. I've had disastrous experiences before. They would've gotten 5 stars, but it took a lot longer than reasonable limits to get anyone to ask what we wanted to drink, and because of the smell (ever so light, but unmistakable). That being said, the service after we got our drinks was "bend over backward" kind of service. Neither my husband nor I had ever tried anything that was in their menu, so we knew this was going to be interesting, and possibly a bad idea, but we were so pleased with everything! The Gobi Chilli is, by far, the best appetizer we've had in years! My husband ordered Curry Chicken, which came with his choice of rice, and heat degree. He chose mid range for the heat and he loved it! I had Tikka Chat. Absolutely delicious! They really surprised us, as we were almost ready to leave, by bringing us a free sample of Gulab Jamun. THAT WAS SO GOOD! If you have the opportunity to try this place, do it, just for the food. Oh, their health score is 95 at the time of our visit. Not too bad. I hope you enjoy!

Good food but extremely long wait time. The food is good and not crazy expensive ($33 for 2 people) but to me it wasn’t worth waiting almost an hour for it. The table next to us walked out LOL The service is of poor quality: they didn’t seat us or give us the menu, finally started to pay attention to us after 15min, then we waited for a long time and the waitress was crying (?!); so unprofessional. When the naan arrived I was told it’s a garlic naan and the regular one is coming; the original naan WAS regular and the other one never arrived. The guy explained at the end that many people called in tonight and they’r understaffed because of some some sports game. Guess what?! I don’t care because when I go to a restaurant I expect a decent service, not amazing in the US, but decent, and at least a basic level of communication. If you’re understaffed, train your people to work faster and be ready. Today was embarrassing and even though the food was good, we’re not planning to return. It’s far too annoying and a waste of our time to wait so long for any kind of food.

Trust your gut. I gave this place a chance despite the bad reviews and gut feeling. I eat Indian Cuisine regularly, so much that I even make dishes at home. So, when I dine at an Indian restaurant I expect authenticity and for it to be BETTER than cooking it myself. Here’s how my experience went. When I first arrived I asked about their lunch buffet and was told they didn’t have one even though it’s advertised on their menu and online. Next I ordered Mango Juice but was told they only served Mango Lasse, although Mango Juice is listed on the menu so I settled for water. I ordered a lunch special made up of dishes I had tried before elsewhere. The taste was below average and nothing was special about it. I left still feeling hungry when usually Indian food satisfies my hunger. If you’ve never had an authentic delicious Indian food experience, you may enjoy this place BUT if you frequent Indian food then you’ll probably be disappointed. The food is ok but overall Indian food is so much better than this place offers.
