Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center — Local services in Lake Havasu City

This is a nice gem in the desert as an oasis for families from the scorching hot summers. A few friends had recommended the aquatic center as a fun, inexpensive place to take kids for something different to do. We live 80 miles away and I took my two boys just myself since my husband was out of town. It was nice to arrive there and only wait in line for less than 5 minutes and pay so little for admission. There is a ton for kids to do and both my 2 1/2 year old and 4 1/2 year olds were very satisfied with the options. The under 5 kids must have to wear life jackets but I liked that rule and there were plenty of all sizes to choose from. I had to ask more than 1 lifeguard what the aquatic center rules were because they weren't posted anywhere. It was hard to tell what was going to result in being whistled at, but that being said there were not many whistles from the lifeguards. The rules seemed very lenient (read: not really many rules). In asking one of the lifeguards, he said "no jumping in any of the pools and no climbing on the ladders". In asking about the fairly good height water slide rules specifically, he said just to slide down feet first and that there weren't really and age/height issues with my kids. My little guy got scared after he went down one time alone, so I asked if I could ride with him and the lifeguard said "Only one time, that's it." There was a mom with a kid who looked 6 or 7 who was absolutely terrified and the mom was essentially dragging the kid kicking and screaming until the lifeguard shook his head that she couldn't force him to go down it. My 4 1/2 year old loved the water slide and I thought it was a great ride, not too short not too long. At one point everyone had to get out of the big wave pool due to poop being spotted as floating around. It was evacuated for only about 10 minutes before it was opened up again...to be honest this grossed me out since there wasn't much of a chlorine smell in the place at all and because any other pool I have been at when that happens results in the pool closing for a while. The splash pad outside was a cool feature. I have to say I was a little concerned safety wise about the boat slide in the wave pool because of the edges on it. If a kid slides down wrong they can knock their head on it. The shark slide was a favorite of the kids and the pool in general seemed fairly well cared for. It really grosses me out to see bandaids and wrappers floating in pools so it was nice that for the most part it seemed clean- ish there. I hesitant to say "clean" only because it didn't smell like a clean pool (chlorine) and the poop incident. We may or may not go back because of the long drive...

I am very displeased with this facility!!!!

I have three children and they all live to swim, but we had to leave after 1 hour, because we were all frozen through and through. Every other pool I have been to has the kids section separate from the lab/sports section to allow for warmer water. The water temperature is kept too low for children and the air is way to cool. They seem to cater more to the comfort of the less than friendly lifeguards than to the people in the water. On top of that they opened a glass sliding door a couple of feet which was enough to create a massive draft that wipped through the enire pool area. And even with a outside temperature of 68 degrees that is cold in form of a draft on wet skin!!!! I asked if they could please close it and was told that it has to be open because it’s a fire hazard if it’s closed. Really???????? A different employee told me it has to be open because the chlorine fumes get so bad right there that it’s a hazard...... Well, that means to me that the have trouble if the chlorination system and can’t balance the chemicals properly. But apparently I’m not the only one. Because considering it’s weekend and winter break this place should be full and there where no more then 15 people in the water. However several adults were sitting in chairs along side of it fully dressed in pullovers and sweatshirts. That’s another indication that the air is too cold. They should not be comfortable wearing all that.

Over all it’s a nice set up that is just being very poorly managed and utilized by making it so...

Whatever you do, don't misplace your stuff at this place. I accidentally left one of my personal items in a bathroom stall. After about 20 min later I realized and circled back but it was gone. I asked at the desk where I was informed some good person did the right thing and turned it in. When the manager went to grab it for me he looked around and then went into the pool area to talk with the staff. I could see the whole interaction but wasn't able to hear. The staff exchanged some awkward looks between each other and a few laughs back and forth before the manager came in and told me that my stuff was thrown in the trash. He wouldn't look me in the eye anymore at this point and when I asked if they would retrieve it for me he went as far as to say they had taken it all the way to the dumpster out back and I could dig for it myself if I wanted to but he was not going to ask his staff to do so. . I was stunned Open swim had not even ended yet. Someone even turned it in..Why would you throw my stuff away ? The value was over $100 and it's actually against the law for a business to do such a thing. I left feeling so offended. This was a place I regularly brought my family to and it will be a very long time before I even consider giving them another penny of...
