This place is hands down incredible. I worked out here for two weeks while visiting Michigan for work and if I lived closer I would switch to this gym after only a few classes.
The first thing I noticed when I went in was the enormous amount of mat space. At other gyms I have been to you are usually rolling in a small area on the mat and constantly bumping into to others. Here, there is plenty of room to roll and warm up. There is also plenty of space for your gym bag because there are shelves and people are allowed to place their things around the raised mats. The bathrooms are very clean, too.
The instructors are incredibly thorough. I could feel myself retaining much more of the instruction thanks to the high level of detail. When they were going around they really took the time to make sure you have every little thing right and insist that you drill it in front of them until you have it. Other schools I have tried out just have an instructor walk around and give everyone a tip or two before moving on. At this gym you have no choice but to succeed.
The level of skill was very good. I could feel that the people I rolled with had very solid fundamentals and I noticed that I was struggling to secure little victories I had begun taking for granted at my home gym. Everyone I rolled with was very welcoming and willing to give me tips to improve my game.
The single best thing about this gym is the amount of time they make you drill for. At a lot of gyms there will be a brief warm-up, some half-assed drilling and then they'll jump right into rolling. Every class here will have you intensively drilling a new move until you have it right and the next class will be a variation of that move followed by more drilling. This is hands down the best way to learn. And, since classes are 90 mins long you will still get plenty of rolling in.
I have been training for several months now and know some things I wish I'd known when I was shopping around for a gym. This place has it all. If there is any part of you that has any doubt, put it aside and try it out. There is no way you won't be satisfied with their services. I cannot speak highly enough...
Read moreI just visited Magic BJJ during a visit back home with family. I have lived out of state for quite some time and have no idea about any of the local gyms. This one popped up with excellent reviews and they all make sense. Some of the things that make this gym awesome in no particular order:
1: their mats have plenty of space and they are raised. 2: their instructors and students were all so welcoming and everyone had a positive attitude. 3: there was a very high ratio of upper belts to lower belts in the class I attended. That means there’s a plethora of experience and always someone to answer questions. 4: the instruction was easily digestible, but still felt advanced enough that anyone should have walked away with a lesson learned. 5: the class structure was great. Warm ups, drilling some basic judo concepts, and then into the meat of the BJJ moves of the day. The instruction lasts an hour, immediately followed by open mat where everyone participated. 6: the vibes of the gym and its members tells me they keep each other safe and it’s a comfortable training environment. 7: as someone not new to BJJ, but new to them, I had someone show me around the gym and touch base with me again during and after class. They made sure I felt right at home. 8: they are upgrading their facilities! 9: I saw what I believe may have been a separate women’s class going on. If you’re a woman looking to train and are intimidated, or just want to tailor your training to other women for purposes like competition, it seems they have you covered. 10: they offer a week long trial with unlimited classes if you’re new to BJJ or if you’re trying to find a new gym and want to be sure it’s for you.
Overall, I felt like I was right at home. If I am in the area again and my schedule works out, I will definitely be stopping by. Good people and...
Read moreI would highly recommend this school for anyone who is interested in martial arts or just looking to improve their overall fitness. I have participated in many of their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and I learned a lot. I like their "Leave your ego at the door" mentality. The teachers and most of the students are interested in learning the art and not just there to see how many people they can get to tap. Being one of the few women in the class that was important to me. The teachers and advanced students were always willing to help me if I had questions and didn't make me feel out of place.
While pregnant I took their yoga class. Even though this class was NOT a prenatal yoga class the instructor went out of his way to do research on prenatal yoga and consult with other people in the profession just so I would have a safe and positive yoga experience.
I have also been taking their Mommy and Me fitness class since I had my daughter. We have been participating since she was a month old. I found this class helpful to get back into the swing of things and I still find it beneficial 3 months later. My daughter gets to be around other kids and I get a workout with other moms. Since these are all other moms I don't feel the embarrassment and pressures that I would at a normal fitness gym. I also liked the fact that I could try out the class once for free to see if I...
