DMV — Local services in Leesburg

Looks like I'm the first one to post a negative review.

Absurd. Being active duty, I've been served with greater warmth and hospitality overseas by people who were in a shooting war with us within my lifetime.

This DMV looks like it has two lines, one for people who have appointments (like I did), and another one for the general population without appointments. I get called over reasonably quickly from the appointment line and am screened for the correct documentation and told to fill out their license renewal form and come directly back to her (despite the queue). Too easy. I got that done and lined back up in the appointment line, only to be repeatedly ignored by the lady, and the associate further down. The other associate watches as a sheep-faced gentleman from the non-appointment line cuts me as I walk towards him when he calls for "next in line". Thankfully one gentleman in the general line politely allows me to go ahead, unlike sheepface. Unfortunately this put me in line with the other associate, who simply puts me through the screening all over again. With some motivation and encouragement, he issued my ticket after I told him that I had already been screened and only needed to be issued a ticket to be seen by one of the DMV desk agents.

I have no doubt that this DMV has improved their operations since they moved from the old location, but my experience here today is the worst I've endured out of any DMV experience thus far.

Ultimately I was able to get issued a temporary license, but boy was the initial screening desk an obnoxious experience. Does this DMV not honor appointments? Is it acceptable to watch another customer shamelessly cut another?

Facility is really nice. Wait time and experience was still disappointing.

Made an appointment for a road skills test. Arrived 20 minutes before schedule time slot. Checked in online. Still had to wait 30 minutes to be called to a booth to submit paperwork. Driving test was fine, maybe 10 minutes. Paid $10 for a real id drivers license but it was only valid for 1.5 months before it expired because they didn’t tell me that the expiration date would be the same as my permit’s. I’m residing in a different state for college so I can’t order a replacement card to be sent to my out of state address. And someone one the phone told me I could apply for a replacement online and would have go pay the fee again but when I went to apply online, the portal said I have to go to a DMV center to set up an online account. Then I’m looking into whether I should just exchange my license for the state I reside in during the school year and I can’t even do that because I have to wait until this license is at least 6 months old.

So I effectively have no state issued ID and wasted $10 on a card I didn’t even get to use. I think the employee should have warned me against getting a Real ID given that it’d only be valid for 1.5 months. And they could have done more to notify me of how I could renew my license while I was still home...

I've been here multiple times for various reasons, but I never had an issue. Today I came with a friend who speaks shy English. As the black man at the ticket window attended the line, I saw he was rude to non-caucasians, especially hispanics. When it was our turn I asked for a road test, he then asked for the registration and when I was about to translate he said if you are going to translate you need to go to Tysons because we do not do road tests at this location for someone that is not fluent in English. I told my friend in English, "Go get your registration," and off he went, and while he went, the man told me "I will tell the examiner he does not speak English, which irritated me. I am a very serene person but at this point I saw how unjust and discriminating he was. I told him he was not being professional because he couldn't just determine that he didn't speak without giving him a chance. My friend is just shy but he does understand and speak English. Long story short, he finally gave us a ticket, we waited 2 hours and my friend passed the road test without a problem ALONE without any translation. This man needs to have customer...
