I see most of the reviewers gave this place 5 stars but they were Buyers -- I'm a Seller who has dealt with Carriage House for a few years and after several altercations with the owner finally took the only remaining item I could find (although there should be many more) and left for good. The owner is a THIEF! First, when you take items in for consignment, she gives you a vague receipt - for example, it might say, "2 tops, 3 pr of shoes, 3 purses" (no detail on each). I would call or stop in monthly to see if things were sold (by the way, I took in very nice high end clothes, purses, and shoes). Occasionally, they would say, for example, that I had $25.75 on my account. They would pay me in cash or check. No receipt was ever provided. This is not normal - every other consignment shop I dealt with gives you a detailed receipt of what was sold, how much it was sold for, and what makes up the amount of money you are receiving. I always had to ask what was sold and how much it was sold for. I would write this down and cross the items off my listing of items I had given them. I would ask over and over about several (very nice) things that I thought would sell quickly but many times was told that they didn't sell yet. In addition, if I called two different times (just a few hours apart and spoke to different people), I would be told I had two different amounts of money on my account. The owner, who is clueless about computer systems, would constantly claim she was having 'computer problems' when you challenged her on something. Today, I decided I had had enough and was going to pick up my outstanding items. I only picked the more expensive items from the list I had maintained - 4 purses and 2 pair of shoes. Only 1 purse was in the store - the owner claimed the other stuff (with the exception of 1 pair of shoes which she claims didn't exist) was sold and that she had paid me for them --- but of course she had no proof of this --- no receipt, no cancelled check or anything. The woman is an absolute thief! This is the kind of business where you can sell anything and tell the owner of the item that you already paid them or that it expired and they donated it --- and she pockets all the money. The IRS and federal government should definitely investigate...
Read moreI was having a plot twisty day and I stopped in for my first peek. As I was entering, another woman was exited and casually said, "They have some fabulous items..." That was the first sign of things looking up... When I step into the store, the energy immediately changed for the better and I got the most warm and wonderful greeting from a gorgeous woman behind the counter who gave me a quick layout of the land. Clothing, shoes, housewares... oh my!
Almost immediately after that, I saw the piece I'd take home: a gorgeous UBU jacket that I'd seen for sale at another boutique, but at a price point that was just out of reach because it was brand new. This UBU coat at Carriage House fit beautifully inside my budget and it fit perfectly and I carried it around the store as if it was my child. It was if the jacket and I were reunited at long last. Then I got to explore the shoes, which are adjacent to the gowns and fancy wear. It was back in that area that l started to melt into tears because I heard women giggling about wedding guest wear and looking amazing as they tried on beautiful dresses and shoes.
Hearing this reminded me of how I'm going through my second divorce and how so many people have audibly and inaudibly wondered what I've done to cause the divorces. As I started crying about my most recent one, the same woman who so warmly and energetically greeted me at the front of the store, swooped in like the shero I didn't know I needed at the time and immediately comforted and encouraged me.
Her name is Genna. I don't know if she practices any religion, but the way she looked after me reminded me of the Bible verse: "Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one each other. Don't be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people..." (Romans 12:15-16)
Meeting and engaging with the beautiful women in that store gave me so much hope! I felt better after leaving g the store than I did when I entered. I am grateful to have gotten true customer service 🙏🏽 Oh! And my Mother Teresa absolutely LOVED the jacket! It was her birthday present 🎁 #GodIsAwesome #JesusIsTheMessiah...
