Marylin Nails & SPA — Local services in Little Falls

I called and made an appointment to come here @ 4pm on April 5th. When I walked in, no one spoke to me. I got stared at extremely hard by the manager who later on became the lady to do my nails. She also didn’t speak when I walked in. The ladies here are predominantly Hispanic and I truly don’t see a problem with that. However, because I do understand Spanish - I knew that they were talking about me or around me in an uncomfortable manner. The lady who was doing my pedicure did a great job, but she had a bit of an attitude when I tried to correct her about it - the manager (the manicurist) who ended up doing my nails had to correct her so she could fix it. Because I was so tired and had just gotten off of work and thought that I was going to be relaxing and in a welcoming setting, I tripped and almost fell really bad walking off of the step down platform that they had and the pedicurist just laughed at me.. she didn’t ask me if I was okay or if I needed help with my things to carry over to the other side to finish my nails. I also informed the manager that this happened and she also laughed it off. Nothing is funny about that especially as professional nail techs who should be making sure ALL clients feel welcomed and safe - no matter their color or race. The manicurist (manager) was doing my nails and it seems like as soon as they knew I was half Hispanic I immediately got acceptance, which is messed up because everybody should be treated equal and fairly, no matter if they speak the same language or are of the same ethnicity. The manicurist was very rough with my nails, even though she commented there was a lot of skin around my nails, I have NEVER had my nails bleed because of how rough she was picking and filing the skin around my nails - almost as if because I’m Black I don’t feel any pain. I had to correct her and ask to stop being so rough. She shortly apologized and kept going. My final straw was when I came in there and SPECIFICALLY asked for an SNS POWDER set and the manager tried to finish my nails off with gel, and I DID NOT want gel on my nails as I’m JUST paying for SNS. Her excuse was that the gel top coat looked better .. but that is NOT what I came in there for. It doesn’t matter what they look like to her, that’s not what I wanted. In no way did she communicate this to me, and when I confronted her about it, she tried to talk to me in a derogatory manner until I stood up for myself and stood my ground. The other techs around her were talking to her about the situation in Spanish, and she said “I understand, but”… If I asked for a service and you can’t perform it FULLY, then just say that. Don’t cheat people. People work extremely hard for their money. You shouldn’t mistreat people or treat them less than because of whatever your personal beliefs are about them. As I left, they also talked about me and mocked me. No one said have a good day or thank you for coming in. I wasn’t being difficult and I wasn’t rude upon my entrance UNTIL I realized what the manager was doing. Now, if I would’ve reacted in a different manner, I would’ve been wrong. I will never come back here again, I do not feel welcomed to because I’m Black and don’t speak...

While my pedicure was fine, my manicure was not. I asked for dip powder and considering the amount of products they had, it was assumed they knew how to use it properly. My nails are extremely thick, and they didn’t use the proper finishing top coat so I don’t expect these nails to last very long. The service also took also two hours, which was dragged out because no one knew how to work with dip powder. I would not be upset if anyone told me they didn’t know how to use dip powder, instead I am left with a bad manicure and lost time.

I can’t speak for their gel service, but do not go here...
