8th floor, suite 801: I walked in expecting to be seen by a licensed therapist, I got to let out my emotions to this particular woman..., then was told to wait THREE MONTHS on a list to be seen for EXTREME TRAUMA?.((This makes ZERO sense)) The woman who spoke to me, offered me NO help at all, I dont know her name. [She has short, pixie cut black hair and glasses, and her outfit had mixed prints (brown leopard print trim on her leather shoes, black and grey dogtooth tights??) distracting and unprofessional. Not appropriate for an office environment.] She gave me a pamplhlet to a DIFFERENT facility for mental health, she instructed me to leave Her office and drive to A different center and Walk In. I called this facility, sitting right in front of her, to make sure I could ACTUALLY get help this time, and the gentleman on the phone said 'We only offer emergency MEDICATION services, in case you need to be medicated.'
I informed the woman she was incorrect and she said 'thanks for the advice' and smiled... she still refused to see it, even after I informed her front desk not to direct people to that center unless they need medication. She interrupted while I was informing THEIR front staff.... and said 'that's to her understanding'.. when I JUST got off the phone with THAT center and was told THEIR offered services, directly..
She did NOT give me the help I needed. She just sat and stared, and blinked at me, when she literally got me to pour out my emotions of what happened, and, without saying the words, told me to go...
Read moreThis center is a non-profit and take in clients for research. Because of this they have a strict regulations to control their variables. Unfortunately, some people are accepted then unaccepted. So, please be aware that the bad reviews are because they were denied access probably in an inconvenient way. Again, this is a NPO which means the workers may not be competent as a trauma clinic that charges standard fees (such as $300 per session).
Remember, this place is FREE and for people with low income.
I've been through this clinic twice, first time I took CPT and second time they re-accepted me since my issues were very complex and it helped their research. I took the NPT at the CSULB location.
I am forever grateful to this clinic for pushing me towards the direction of my healing journey.
It really breaks my heart that people were rejected but again, remember this place is free and it literally saves so many lives. They have a very long wait-list because they are the only clinic in Southern California that offers this free service for our community's mental health.
Thank you Trauma Clinic of LB....
Read moreI’ve noticed some negative reviews of the Long Beach Trauma Recovery Center, and many seem to be about the intake process or being denied access. That’s understandable for a nonprofit — there will always be limitations on how many people they can serve.
What I don’t see enough of online is praise for the actual work of the therapists here, which has been nothing short of life-changing. I’ve been to many professional medical and mental health facilities, but I have never received the depth of practical, effective mental tools that I’ve gained here.
Even though the therapists are still in training, they bring not only a wealth of knowledge but also genuine skill in guiding you through the hardest parts of trauma recovery. Special thanks to Karen and Natalie, who have helped me take control over 41 years of trauma in a way that is both practical and tangible.
If you are accepted into this program, know that you will be given the space, tools, and support to truly heal — and to ensure your trauma no longer has dominion over your life. I can’t recommend them...
