Otometric Labs — Local services in Long Beach

Sure this place is crowded with stuff in various states of repair, but isn't that a good sign, that he's got lots of business or perhaps people that have stiffed him and not come to pick up the repairs he's already done? In my case, my 50" Plasma HDMI inputs got fried due to a short in the cable, which involves replacing the motherboard. I called 3 different places and got pretty much the same answer, can't get the motherboard or the replacement could cost $250-$400 buck depending on how badly damaged the core is plus $150 for labor. That was pushing my threshold for repair/replace decision as I can replace the 5 yr old 50" plasma for $1000 or less. Well, I call Otometric Labs, he says take a photo of the rear input panel and bring it in. He then looks it up on the computer and says, he can get the motherboard and will come out to the house to do the repair (it's a hassle loading up a 50' Plasma TV in the car, taking it to his shop, ect) for $100 deposit (to order the part) and another $250 at completion. I say OK, and a week later, he's got the part, comes out to the house to replace the motherboard and all is fine for the total of $350. Wonderful, honest and trustworthy service at very reasonable rates. I dropped my cell face down on a rough cement sidewalk (without case / cover!) and the screen cracked in a million pieces. I called and was quoted the best rate out of 5 places. The gentleman who helped me, Lu, ordered a new screen, and took time to tape up the broken screen so it wouldn't cut my fingers. Who even does that anymore? I was very impressed. I was still able to use my phone while waiting for the part to ship. When it came in, I got a call and dropped it off and went to lunch. Came back in a couple of hours (that's not how long it look for the phone to be fixed, I just took a longer lunch), and my phone was like NEW again.

The store itself can be a bit claustrophobic as it is filled with many TVs waiting to be fixed. That to me just means there are lots of happy customers (including me). Just don't judge a book by its cover, so to speak. If only I could give 100 stars....

ZERO STARS!!! This guy had my laptop for 10 days, and still wasn't fixed. Then, he lost a piece of my laptop, and the hard drive that was removed. I gave this place the benefit of the doubt, and I shouldn't have. The store is crowded with a bunch of JUNK. I bet he lives on the property in the back. Incompetent, unprofessional, clueless, rude.
