Ok, first and foremost I need to express how excited I was to try this place. I love ramen, but every time I crave/want decent ramen, I would have to travel to Torrance or LA (or anywhere other than LB for that matter since we don't a ramen spot here!!). So you can see why I was so excited when I heard of this place!
The wait wasn't as bad as I expected. I arrived before my Friends so I signed in via thier iPad, which was kinda neat (enter your party, name, and phone #). It also texted you a link to see your queue in line which I thought was pretty interesting.
After we were seated, our Waiter greeted us (super nice! Extra points for that) and took our drink orders. Aside from the usual drinks (non alcoholic only at the time we went), I thought it was interesting they had 2 choices of water. There was of course water water... And "infused" water, which had watermelon, herbs, and other "stuff". We all just had water and proceeded with our food order. I ordered a tonkotsu ramen w/egg, garlic and lots of house spicy sauce (which was more tasty than SPICY)!! Oh and a side of crispy chicken..
My initial thoughts on the food was YUMM.. I usually give the broth my 1st taste test, it was fatty, rich and flavorful. The chicken was crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside since it was made from thigh meat. Moving on to the pork chashu, it was amazing!!!! I didn't expect anything less from when I saw it. It was perfectly cooked tender, and the ratio of fat to meat was spot on. The egg was also good, yolk cooked soft but not runny. My only gripe was the noodles themselves :(. I tend to eat and enjoy my ramen noodles firm, I felt this was almost over cooked. Not sure if that's how they were intended or was a bad batch (my friends had the same expression)
So all in all perhaps I had a bit tooo much anticipation. May have been a weeee bit over hyped... But about halfway through my meal I was in a sort of underwhelming state. Don't get me wrong, the service was 10 out of 10!! Everything was good!! But...... if I had a craving for ramen would I come back? The quick answer is yes.. for the convenience!! I literally live a few blocks from them! But in all honesty, I would still stick to my usual in Torrance, LA, etc....
HiroNori will be an amazing place, I have no doubt that it will be super busy once they are fully up and running. Definitely can see it trending! The 1st of many ramen spots to come!! Fingers crossed*
Until then, I'll be back...... When I'm craving ramen.... too lazy to drive.... and wanna grab a few drinks around the area before...
Read moreI really hate to leave negative reviews, but our experience at HiroNori in Long Beach on Saturday, May 15th around 1:30 PM was incredibly disappointing — and frankly, disheartening.
We came in as a party of 7 (4 adults, 2 teens, and 1 child), fully aware that a larger group like ours would require a bit of a wait. As regulars at HiroNori in Long Beach, we’ve always enjoyed the food and the usually friendly service — which makes this review even more disappointing to write.
We came in on Saturday, May 15th at around 1:30 PM as a party of 7 (4 adults, 2 teens, and 1 child). We knew we’d have to wait because of our group size and were happy to do so. We waited outside for over an hour without complaint.
Eventually, as the restaurant began to empty out, I checked in with the hostess and was told that a table for 7 would be available in about 10 minutes. But when that party left, we noticed from the window that the table wasn’t being cleared. I followed up again and was told they still needed to clean it — yet we watched as staff cleaned nearly every other table except the one intended for us. At this point, we were the only group still waiting, and the restaurant was nearly empty.
What made the experience so upsetting was how the staff behaved. They looked back at us repeatedly, smirked, and moved noticeably slower — it felt intentional and mocking. I really don’t want to jump to conclusions, but the uncomfortable truth is that we were the only Black family in the restaurant, and it began to feel like we were being deliberately ignored or even racially discriminated against. That is a heartbreaking and humiliating experience to have, especially in a place we’ve supported regularly.
We finally decided to leave — not just because of the wait, but because we no longer felt welcome. Even if the table had eventually been ready, the damage had been done.
I want to be clear that in the past, we’ve had great service at HiroNori, and this review isn’t meant to discredit the kind and professional team members we’ve encountered before. Unfortunately, on this visit, under the supervision of manager Miguel Lonzaga, the handling of our situation was deeply disappointing.
We hope this feedback is taken seriously, and that future guests — especially families of color — are treated with the fairness and respect every...
Read moreI'm only giving this place a low rating because of how uneducated the employees are. During the month of February they offered a free drink for "healthcare" workers. Me being a healthcare worker asks to get that free drink offered. The server looks at me in disgust and refuses to grant me the offer because I didn't have a badge to prove it. So I showed her my license online that I was a dental assistant. She went to her manager for approval and came back to say that they only consider healthcare workers as people who work in the hospital around covid 19 patients. I understand that those individuals are super important and commend them for their hard work and sacrifice but this business has no right discriminating other healthcare workers as if what we do is not as important. Dental offices are also considered healthcare workers because we deal with peoples oral health. If you guys just wanted to offer free drinks to hospital workers then you should've specified that in your sign. It's crazy to discriminate other healthcare workers as if they're not making the same sacrifice daily just cause we're not in a hospital environment. There's people that come into the dental office that may possibly be positive for covid 19 and we wouldn't have any idea. That's why we use protective personal equipment (masks, gowns, goggles, face shields) in order to protect ourselves.
Otherwise, the food was great. Just wish the employees actually knew the definition of a healthcare worker before offering any freebies. Or at least be specific on who you are offering freebies to.
If you look up “healthcare worker”, CDC as well as google search EASILY considers Dentists, Dental Assistants, and Dental Hygienists as healthcare workers. Just FYI for your next freebie before you discriminate another dental professional. Luckily today was the last day of February lol so...
