SEE END OF REVIEW FOR NOTES ABOUT THE TAILOR.
Fernando @ Al Weiss was great. Came in and fit me with a 3 piece suit for a great price within 30 minutes. And this was when the store was busy! They are truly professionals here.
So, 5 stars for Al Weiss!
However, if you need adjustments they refer you to a tailor across the street (Silver's Tailor). He only gets 2/5 stars.
Yes, yes, the tailor is not technically a part of Al Weiss. But he does not have his own yelp page and, let's be honest, all of his business is coming from his proximity to Al Weiss. So, I'm mentioning it here to help out the next person thinking of using his services to tailor their brand new Al Weiss suit.
Turnaround time at Silver's Tailor is next day, not same day as some other reviews will have you believe. Plan accordingly.
Prices for tailoring are higher than typical here. I paid more to tailor my suit and shirt than I paid for the suit and shirt itself!! That seems off, but could be forgivable if the work was good, however it was not, which leads me to point 3.
The work was shoddy. My jacket was shortened unevenly. When I pointed this out to the tailor, he first denied it and claimed it was even. After I pushed the issue some more he admitted it was uneven, but said he was busy and could not fix it at that moment. I told him I needed it for a funeral that was happening the next morning, and he finally fixed it. I'm glad he ultimately fixed it, but I did not appreciate all the hoops I had to jump through to get there. Take some pride and accountability in your work!
He also tailored 2 shirts and made them way too tight, so now I have to buy replacement shirts.
So, my ultimate recommendation would be, get your suits at Al Weiss and take them to a different tailor than the one who just happens to be across the street. You...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDefinetly not the best service. Especially if you are Latino. Which is weird because all the staff are Latino. If you are white they will cater perfectly for you. Arrived looking for a quick two suits seeking something inexpensive since I needed them for an internship for daily use. No need for me to have anything too expensive either. Took 10 minutes of me wandering at a non busy time to have an older Latino man help me out. Felt kind of rushed definetly not the best service. Pretty ok selection. Had me trying on clothes and I was asking for the most affordable price because I needed something basic but only available options were $279. I knew there were $100 suits elsewhere. When I came out of the dressing room the man assisting me was nowhere to be seen. Went off and helped a tall white man instead. Makes sense if I made a commission off of sales Iād cater to who I thought was more affluent. Decided to check out other stores but wanted to return the clothes I had tried on to the worker out of respect and told him k wanted to cruise around. He cursed at me and told me in Spanish go leave with an angry tone and gross facial expression with a dismissive and aggressive wave of the hand. I was shook and decided not to come back. Got attended by a lovely young man named Andres at gentlemanās wear inc. Just a few min walk away. Helped me out with exactly what I needed made good conversation and took his time with me. Got what I needed for my internship and 2 suits for a $100 each comes with 2 free shirts and ties. Tailoring was only $10 a piece. Much better experience than this so called 5 star affordable Al Weiss. Take my experience with a grain of salt. If you are white and or look affluent you will have a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAl Weiss Men's Clothing store has been around Los Angeles for several decades now though they have recently moved into a building when the original location was demolished for a new structure. You'll find when you visit customers that have been shopping there for years if not decades. They have been the store of choice for any experienced professional needing suits that look great, are durable, and affordable.
They carry everything from 88$ polyester blends to $1000 Armani Super 150 wool suits so you're sure to find something in your budget. What impresses me the most was their selection and value in the $150-300 range. The suits they carry have a fit and finish that you normally would be paying $500-1000 in a retail store. In fact, in recent forays to the mall, I have found that the current offerings of suits are much lower in quality and features than Al Weiss carries.
The people there are fantastic and a really keen eye for your fit and can size you up as soon as you cross the threshold and pull 5 suits for you in less than 30 seconds to try. They have a variety of accessories as well and can assemble complete wardrobes very quickly and for a lot less than you might have thought. The last time I was there I was able to buy 3 super-120 wool suits with 3/4 line pants for under $500. The suits have held up nicely to everyday wear so don't worry about the quality.
Parking can be a challenge as the store is located smack in the middle of the garment district. You might need to circle around the block a couple of times but you'll eventually find something - avoid the $4 and $5 lots littered throughout the area. Your patience will pay off with the savings...
