I never write reviews, but this place was so frustrating I felt the need to warn others. While they do give good haircuts—which is why I gave them the benefit of the doubt multiple times—they do not have the attention to detail or patience for good hair color. I usually trust that the hair stylists know what they’re doing, but here you have to be vigilant or they will mess you up.
I have a split-dye hairstyle with 2 pieces of blonde, and the rest of my hair is my dark virgin hair. I first got it done in Japan and loved it, so I wanted to maintain it with root touch ups here in the states. However, this proved way too difficult for Hair Day. They poorly parted my hair, bleached parts they shouldn't have, and constantly wiped mistakes off my hair with a rag instead of taking their time. Despite this, I kept trusting the process because I still assumed professionals would know what they were doing. I was wrong.
The first visit left my roots yellow after bleaching. I pointed this out, and the stylist asked if I wanted toner—as if leaving my roots yellow was what I wanted. I know nothing about hair, so I assumed the toner would fix the yellow. After the toner, my roots turned gray and eventually faded back to yellow. The second visit was to fix this, but the boss was accusatory, implying the issue was my fault. She tried to blame all of the pieces her employee covered with black hair dye on me. When I explained, she then got mad and said my hair needed double bleaching to not be yellow, which I wasn’t informed of the first time. I would have happily paid more and stayed longer had I been informed, which would have saved me the second visit. They re-bleached and toned my hair, sort of fixing it, but the entire experience was stressful. Still, I bought a hair product despite their mistakes because I felt bad for taking their time.
Going the third time was my mistake as I should have learned my lesson. However, I genuinely assumed that booking with the boss would mean there would be no mistakes and it would be fine. She was worse than her employee. She barely listened as I explained my style, skipped proper parting, and over-bleached my hair. At least, in the first visit, the mistakes were accidents, but the boss bleached lots of black on purpose so she wouldn’t have to part my hair. She also kept handing the job off to an assistant who she had to teach. Both of them used rags to wipe bleach off parts of my hair like I was a table. They bleached so many roots on natural pieces of hair that I could no longer trust the process and I pointed it out. She tried to act like she wasn’t doing anything wrong and told me she was going to color those pieces black. I never asked for that, I just wanted a root touch up on the only two blonde pieces of hair on my natural hair. My hair will undoubtedly fade into a tricolored mess. Despite spending six hours in the chair for a simple touch-up of two small pieces of hair the boss refused to acknowledge her mistakes, blamed them on her employees, and rushed through everything. Even as they were blow drying my hair, she tried to cover up more left over mistakes with dye, but I refused saying I just wanted to go. She insisted, so I let her, but I ended up having to hover over the sink so she could wash that piece. This is an experience I would expect from an at home dye job by novices, not professionals.
Additionally, I noticed they’re more attentive and welcoming to Korean-speaking customers. They book multiple clients at once, which means you’re left unacknowledged for long periods and they rush. If you’re looking for a cheap hair job, this is the place, but it will reflect in the quality.
I wouldn’t recommend this salon, especially for intricate dye jobs or alternative hairstyles. The lack of care and professionalism left my hair damaged and far from what I wanted. Most frustratingly, the boss never acknowledged her mistakes. I shouldn’t have even paid her for the damage she did to my hair, but I wanted to leave so bad. Very...
Read moreThis has been my go-to place since I moved to LA in 2020. The auntie who’s almost always there (assuming she’s the owner?) took absolutely great care of my hair. But it’s NOT the case today because the new lady wearing round glasses is a completely different story: She seems always to be in a rush and the way she handles everything is always rough that even hurt me a couple times with the clipper. She also can’t seem to get the wire straight for the clipper - can’t you take a break and calm down before you do anything?? Worst part is that she doesn’t realize she’s making me uncomfortable it until I really reacts…she would then apologizes but proceed with the same mishandling again. Even when it comes to washing my hair - she would start before I even get ready. The water is almost always ICE COLD for the first half. And she doesn’t know how to properly dry my hair with towels - aren’t you supposed to at least wait until the water stops dripping to stop??? Simply rubbing a couple times and leave me there with face covered in water drops is NOT the way to go. Just overall a horrible experience. I hope the auntie that was previously there comes back…otherwise I would NOT recommend going to hair...
Read moreNever again. Came here for a cut, wanting to maintain the length with layers + curtain bang trim. I originally called for an appointment with Jenny, the owner, but as soon as I walked in the guy that had booked the appointment for me asked me what I wanted to do. Thinking he was just going to shampoo, I told him what I wanted. But afterward, it was too late and he started cutting my hair. I have never been in so much pain during a haircut. He was tugging and pulling my hair, telling me that “tension” was needed for a pretty result. While he was making my hair thinner, it literally felt like he was plucking each individual strand out of my scalp. My hair now looks terrible. The layers are a mess, the length is too short, and the curtain bangs look the same as they were when I entered the salon. The curls he put in uncurled in approximately two hours. I have never had a bad experience with Jenny. But Justin, although he was a nice person, is most definitely not qualified to cut...
