What a nightmare staying at this hotel. The only reason we have not rated it as terrible is because the staff did try - but to be honest they are fighting a losing battle with this place.||||The whole building needs a complete refurb and should be shut down until this is done.||||We were given our room key by friendly reception staff and headed upstairs. On entering the room there was a very strange smell, the carpets were very badly stained and the bed felt as hard as a rock. The temperature outside was around 26 degrees as the room was stuffy. The first thing we did was try to switch on the air con but we could not get it to work. We rang down stairs and, to be fair to the staff, the Manager was there within minutes. He did the usual switch it off / switch it back on again but that didn't work. At that stage he said it was broken but would find us another room - luckily we hadn't unpacked.||||We were then taken to another room down the next corridor but this room was one of their Standard rooms (we had booked a Deluxe room). We pointed this out to the Manager but he initially said, as we had booked through Expedia, that he could not offer us any reduction for downgrading our room. We pointed out that this was not acceptable and he told us to wait while he liaised with reception.||||Eventually we were told there were no more Deluxe rooms available but they would upgrade us to a Suite. We were then taken down another corridor to the next room - the air con worked this time which was a bonus but the room itself had definitely seen better days. The furniture looked like something from the 1960's and was dented / scratched / broken like it had been used since the 1960's too! The bed was so hard it would have probably have been more comfortable to sleep on the floor. ||||After we had unpacked we decided to go out and explore the area. As we went to leave the room we noticed that the door was not closing properly (with all our property in the room and NO safe we could not leave) so had to ring down to reception again. Once again we have to say that the staff were quick to come up but they struggled to mend the door. After almost 1 hour, and 3 memeber's of staff, the door eventually closed but we were told to be "careful" when we came and went!!||||On the 2nd day we noticed that the air con was stuck permanently on 72 degrees and would not move and the door refused to lock on our way out AGAIN so we had to wait for staff to attend again!||||There was no bin in the room, we advised staff on reception twice but one never appeared. On the 2nd day we used a carrier bag to collect the rubbish up, the maid came - took the bag, but still did not take the hint to leave a bin!!!||||On our 3rd day out we returned to find the door to our room was open. Luckily nothing was taken but this down to pure luck. We raised it with staff and were told that only the maid had been to the room that day, obviously the lock failed on her same as it had on us but she made no attempt to secure it or let reception know.||||All in all with faulty air con, furniture that looks like it came out of the ark, stained and smelly carpets, beds that are so hard they are virtually impossible to sleep on, poor hygiene with no bins etc in the rooms, and a total lack of security to the rooms I would not recommend a stay at the Garden Suites Hotel and will not...

Read moreMy horrible experience at the Garden Suite Hotel started when I was doing volunteer work there for a special 2 day event.
My cell phone battery was getting very low and I went to the front desk to ask if they had a cell phone charger that I could borrow or just leave my phone there and plug it in. One of the receptionist said they don’t have a cell phone charger and I said that Hotels usually have a cell phone charger and if this happened to hotel customers that need to charge their phone what do in the case of an emergency. Suddenly, an old man came out from the office behind the front desk. He said that they don’t have a charger. I said I did not ask to borrow a charger and if I could just leave my phone to charge. He said they don't do it and started to yell at me to go to another hotel that has a cell phone charger if I wasn’t happy.
I was expecting that he would respect the guests when all I was doing was asking a question. He is the worst hotel service worker I had ever seen. I found out that later that he was the general manager of the hotel.
I went back to the event hall and after few minutes the general manager came to me ask where I was from and started shouting at me to tell him where I was from. I asked him twice “did you come to me to fight me? He said “yes”. I was so scared he was going to hit and assault me. I told him that I will call the police if he tried to hit me. There were around 10 people at the event hall on the 1st floor who witnessed it and one of men told the general manager to stop, and he left.
About an hour later, I was at the Café Garden inside of the hotel with my friend waiting for the show on the 2nd floor to start. I was able to charge my cell phone from the Café. The Café is located next to the front desk in the lobby. The general manager came back to me again and started to yell at me to get out. And asked again a couple of times, where are you from? I said I am a customer at the Café and why do I have to leave? He said that even if you are a customer that when he says to leave then I have to go. He said that anybody in here must leave when he said to leave.
I told him I am not going to leave because I am a paying customer at the café. At that time he said that he will call the police and I told him go ahead because I didn’t do anything wrong. He said he will let me go because I am a pitiful woman and...
