Self Help Graphics & Art — Local services in Los Angeles

I live in an affordable housing community. The housing community is part the East LA Housing Community Corporation. The corporation is kind enough to host events on site and keep us abreast of and invite us to events around East LA. Last month a representative came to my door and invited me to an exhibit at the Self Help Graphics & Art Center. About a week ago, I took the time to visit the center and peruse the exhibit. Oddly enough, while there, for 45 minutes to an hour, several people saw me, looked at me, but did not acknowledge me. There were what seemed to be interns, volunteers, staff members, artists, etc. - at least ten people, and not one person smiled at me, nodded at me, let alone said a word to me. This is not only odd, it's rude. Perhaps I came at a bad time (though within the hours specified on the flyer I received), but I wouldn't know because no one said a thing to me. Maybe they were in the middle of something, just wrapping something up, or just starting something (there was no indication of any of this); no way to know because no one said a thing to me. So I'm left with the conclusion that the interns, volunteers, staff, artists etc. are poorly trained and/or rude and unprofessional. Self Help Graphics is one of the oldest printmaking institutions in Los Angeles. Infact, they helped make printmaking a tradition in this city.
