EDIT: shelves have seemed fuller the times ive visited since so i think the empty shelves were likely due to covid. This place is pretty crowded, even when there arent many people, theyve crammed so much stuff into a space that isnt too big. it's not too bad if you visit when it isnt super packed but if you're fat like me and visit when it's chock full of customers, it's kinda embarrassing and annoying to have to feel like you cant look at products too long because somebody wants to go down the aisle, worse if you're a darker skinned person. the fatphobia amongst asian communities is really bad and some of the customers wont hesitate to treat you like a nuisance if you have the audacity to be fat in the store. also, i have definitely been ignored by the workers. on my last visit, only one of the workers was kind enough to smile at me and acknowledge me and help me while i was shoppong.
i know to some it's probably stupid and pointless to bring up issues of body image and colorism and racism in a review of a japanese and korean beauty store but unfortunately they're just two things that are part of my existence and are unfortunately things that do impact how others treat me and that includes how customers and staff in stores treat me at times.
i still like to visit because they have some great products but i recommend visiting their bigger Arcadia or smaller Temple City locations for the best experiences.
Decent place, the aesthetics are cute, but you might find better prices online, if you don't mind waiting for and paying for shipping. Also, quite a few of the displays were empty. I imagine it's due to maybe covid making imports slow down or something similar? So maybe it can't be helped. The selection was okay, it's not that big of a place but you'll find some devent brands and products. I can say I wasn't followed around the store, so there's that too. Maybe they read the...
Read moreI tried to go for a walk after a long time of having depression problems, I just wanted to distract myself and I ended up coming across this store where only one of the girls in charge of the store was friendly, the whole time it was terrible. . . When I was trying to find help to get a product I didn't meet the friendly girl from before again so I had to go with another one who looks uncomfortable and a bit rude all the time, I apologized for my bad English when trying to ask for one product. I ordered the product but she still seemed upset, when I finished shopping I went to pay and really the whole time her face looked frustrated, she asked me if I wanted a bag but I didn't think I would need it and I said "no thanks". . . I paid and left but I realized I would need it so I went back and asked the same girl if she could sell me a bag, she said something I couldn't understand but I thought she meant I had to buy some more product to get it. Confused, I asked her if she had to buy something to give me the bag, then she started to say, annoyed, that she had already asked me before and I had told her "no." I tried to ask again if she should buy something else but she kept saying that I had asked myself before. At that moment I wanted to cry, I was really frustrated, I just wanted him to sell me the bag to put my things in. I don't know if she noticed because she gave up and asked me if I had a dime. I just said yes, she gave me the bag and I apologized again and left feeling horrible. It really ruined my day, my English isn't very good but I said it before thinking that maybe she would be a little more understandable, I don't think If so much fuss was necessary for something so small, he could have told me "yes, it's ten cents,...
Read moreI recently visited this store after discovering it on TikTok, and as a skincare enthusiast, I was quite excited. I brought my mom and sister, who were visiting LA, to share this experience. However, our visit was marred by a negative encounter with Kelly, one of the employees. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel unwelcome, showing clear judgment without any greeting or smile.
Kelly and her coworker followed my sister around the store, making her uncomfortable. It's disheartening to experience such treatment, and as a mixed Black and Asian woman, I've encountered this bias before. Despite our well-dressed appearance on my mom's birthday, it seemed they couldn't look past our appearance.
When I inquired about the CosRX snail serum, Kelly's response was dismissive, stating it was sold out. In my honest opinion, you'd be better off shopping at Soko Glam or other Korean skincare sites. They offer better deals and save you from the unpleasant experience we had with these individuals who seem to harbor self-hate.
I've given them two stars because the other employee managed to redeem the visit somewhat with her kindness...
