Chunju Han-il Kwan was the third traditional homestyle Korean restaurant I've been to (the others being KOBAWOO and SA RIT GOL). By far, it's probably the best one. Everything here was great. Spot on. When I went a couple days ago, the group and I ordered their kalbi tang (beef stew soup), kimchi pajun (kimchi pancake), kalbi (BBQ short ribs), and broiled atka fish. I also had their endaegu (spicy cod fish w/ radish), their dolsot bibimbae, and the rice cake/dumpling soup on another occasion before. First off, their banchan was excellent, which is already an early indicator that the actual entrees were going to be great. The banchan selection was huge, varied, and all had great flavors. The quality was also very good, as they felt pretty fresh. The entrees themselves didn't disappoint either. The kalbi tang was nice in its silky flavor, not too overpowering and not too bland. The same positive analysis applies to the rice cake/dumpling soup as well. It's some of the best I've had in any Korean restaurant. The kalbi was awesome in its balanced sweetness and meat texture. The pajun was tasty as well. The atka fish, which I've never had before, was also pretty tasty considering it's a "flavorless" fish from what my friend said. Finally, the endaegu was great. It's one of the house specialties.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this restaurant. It's probably the best traditional Korean restaurant in K-Town, and definitely one of the best Korean restaurants in LA in general. They do just about everything right here in terms of flavors, variety, and authenticity. My Korean friend, who is usually very picky about Korean food, was very impressed and felt that this place really delivered like no other. Furthermore, the decor is simple, practical, and pub-like, but clean and...

Our group of 5 came here on a Wednesday night around 7:45pm and there was a 5-10 minute wait. While you wait, you can (and should) order your food! When we were seated, our food came out IMMEDIATELY. ALL restaurants should have this system!!
FOOD: budae chigae (army stew) - stew with ramen, spam, veggies, rice cakes and probably other stuff I'm forgetting. Delicious and tasty! Not too spicy or salty and lots of ingredients. spicy bbq pork - also very yummy! Again, I wish it was spicier but it was very tasty and tender. stewed octopus - very juicy! Smothered in spicy kochujang with jalapenos and onions, definitely the spiciest thing we ordered (and it still wasn't bad lol) This was really good when I added it to the chigae! scallion pancake - very mochi-like and chewy
The banchan is super delicious too! Lots of variety and they re-fill them quickly and without us having to ask. Japchae!
SERVICE: Awesome! Pre-ordering your food while you wait is GENIUS. Our food came out right away, banchan and barley teas were refilled quickly and everyone was friendly and smiling.
VENUE/PARKING: Its on the smaller side, but the tables are spaced so you don't feel cramped. Our table sure was full of food though! There is a rather cramped parking lot, but we walked over from our friend's place.
Yummy! Super efficient meal too - we were done eating in about 30...
Read moreLooking for authentic Korean food, well this place is so authentic that the ajima in the front speaks to you in Korean when you wait in the front! Better to bring a Korean with you to get everything going because it does get incredibly pack! Don't fret because as busy as they were we were still able to get seated within 10 to 15 minutes!
Its pretty efficient as the little old lady takes your order first and once your seated everything including the banchan (small side dishes) gets brought to your table within seconds! They made one big boo boo, but I asked for the bimbimbap as that was the only veggie dish out there for me and she knew i was vegetarian and when the dish came out i started to stir it and saw chunks of meat hiding behind the egg!
The lady apologized and got me a whole new one, she was so cute and smiley that I forgave the situation right away! I saw that she walked to every table to make sure they were having a decent meal and bring people things ! Def a...
