I recently hired Sparrow Moving to help me relocate to a new place less than 10 miles away, and the experience left much to be desired. The whole ordeal began promisingly, with effective communication via Facebook Messenger leading up to the moving day. However, as the day unfolded, it became clear that my movers were not living up to expectations.
To set the stage, I was moving from a two-bedroom apartment with minimal large furniture, including a 2-person sofa, two bed frames, a desk, coffee table, and a small dresser. Everything was pre-packed, and I expected the move to be relatively smooth. The movers arrived promptly at 8:30 AM, and for the first couple of hours, they efficiently loaded our belongings into their truck.
However, things took a drastic turn for the worse when I had to leave for my new place at around 11 AM to drop off a check, collect keys, do a walk-through, and set up Wi-Fi with the service provider. In the two hours I was away, absolutely no progress was made. Instead, I returned to find them excessively wrapping items in plastic, including a plastic clothing rack and even individual hangers. It was baffling, and despite our attempts to communicate that certain items did not need wrapping, they persisted with their time-consuming method.
Communication was a challenge, as they didn't speak much English and mentioned they had arrived from overseas from Eastern Europe just a week prior. When we eventually reached my new place, they got lost along the way, despite leaving at the same time as I did. I arrived 30 minutes ahead of them, and this added to the overall frustration of the day.
Furthermore, the moving company charged a driving time fee for their initial trip to my old place and then to the new one, on top of the hourly rate from when they started until they finished. Unloading the items proved to be another unnecessarily lengthy process. To put things into perspective, when I moved into my previous place, I was able to unload everything with some friends in just 2 hours. This stark contrast left me feeling like I had fallen victim to a bait-and-switch tactic, with the movers deliberately dragging out the process to increase the hourly bill.
In summary, my experience with these movers was marked by inefficiency, miscommunication, and excessive charges. They took advantage of the situation and seemed more interested in extending the hours to inflate their fees rather than providing a reasonably efficient moving service. I would be cautious about using this company in the future and advise others to thoroughly research their options before settling on a...
Read moreI had an absolutely horrendous experience with this moving company on 2/28/25. The communication from Stacy started off good, but after I paid my deposit, responses began to be few and far between, after she was texting me nearly daily to get my business. She also forgot multiple times what day my move was.
The evening before my move, which was scheduled for Feb 28, they called me and asked if I could change my move date and offered a comical $50 discount, I’m assuming due to poor management and they likely double booked themselves. She also thought my move date was on March 1, even tho the contract she sent me clearly started Feb 28. I refused, and was offered a slightly less comical $100 discount and I also told them I would not be paying for the extra hour fee that would surely be charged to be for driving during rush hour traffic. They gave me an arrival window of 2-5pm, the movers arrived at 6:45 PM.
The two guys who helped me were kind and did a good job, but once we arrived at my new apartment, the owner started texting them, demanding I pay them the money immediately otherwise they’d shut the truck and call the police. My move hadnt even been completed at this point, and it was now midnight and multiple neighbors of mine complained about the noise, with one of them actually filing a formal complaint. They also charged me for the double drive that I had refused to pay for and they accepted and again, threatened to lock the truck with my belongings unless I paid them right then and there.
I believe the owners name is Mike, he is a con artist and a bully and I will be telling as many people as possible about how awful this company is. I’m shocked by all the good reviews. Moving is already stressful, hiring a company and paying the money is supposed to make it less stressful, but this was hands down the worst moving experience I’ve ever had. I would have been better off doing it myself and I cannot stress enough to avoid this company...
Read moreI am compelled to write this update after my initial review, as my experience with Sparrow Moving Company continues to deteriorate. After significant damage to my property during the move, I reached out multiple times to address the issues, but they have refused to take any accountability for the damages.
Recently, Sparrow Moving Company contacted me, offering a mere $100 to remove my negative reviews. This attempt to silence my feedback is not only unethical but suggests a pattern of behavior where they are potentially compensating others as well to hide the truth about their poor service. They are not addressing the actual costs of the damages incurred, leaving me no choice but to seek legal counsel. If they’re offering money to people to remove their bad reviews, I’m sure they’re paying people to leave good reviews as well!
I have also reported this situation to the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, as it seems they may be on the brink of losing their business license. The level of customer service I received is appalling and far below the standards one should expect from a reputable company.
I urge potential customers to be cautious and think twice before hiring Sparrow Moving Company. If they are willing to pay customers off to remove legitimate reviews, it raises serious doubts about their integrity and the quality of their service.
I attached a screenshot of the email they sent me and a photo of the damage to my property in only one place! The other damage is to my dining room table walls, carpets, and other furniture I was not seeking Compensation for as I understand that moving can be challenging, but the damage to my tile step costing me thousands of Dollars and was something I tried to address with them. But seeing as they’re unable to communicate, and are trying to bribe me full damages will...
