Oh man, I don't even know where to begin with this place (in a good way.)
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights as part of our honeymoon and after some horrid experiences at other hotels on our trip and reading deeper into the reviews of this place, I had pretty low expectations. I pictured tiny rooms with zero storage, a weird bathroom-in-the-bedroom combo and the sheer embarrassment of someone walking in on us because our room was double-booked -- some of the things I'd read about.
Turns out the only one of those things we experienced was the last one (and it was US walking into someone's room -- luckily we didn't see anyone, just their stuff!). The front desk staff switched us to a different spot immediately and offered some drink tokens as an apology.
Room: We DID get a room upgrade for our honeymoon thanks to Allie at the front desk, so maybe that accounts for our wonderful experience. Our room had a fantastic view, enough space for our stuff (two backpacks and a few tote bags), plus extra space under the foot of the bed. Shower was really nice and was blocked off from the room with glass walls. Toilet was entirely separate, while the sink was incorporated into the room itself which didn't bother us. Really comfortable bed, nice chairs to sit in, folding tables and some hooks on the wall to hang our towels/clothes. Maybe other rooms are smaller and have a different bathroom setup, but I'd be willing to stay here again to find out!
Location: Can't be beat. We started each morning by getting coffee in the lobby and walking along the river, plus it's close to a ton of great restaurants, bars and distilleries.
Atmosphere: Despite all the cool places to hang out in Lou, we found ourselves wanting to wind down in the evenings at the hotel itself! The bar had a great menu, TONS of board games and cozy nooks for introverts like us, good music, and quite possibly the best bartender I've ever encountered: Justin. Between the drinks and the conversation, he really took our experience to a whole different level and I'm so glad he was working all three nights we stayed!
The cons: 1 - Parking is expensive if you want it close (we paid $20/day and most other lots seemed comparable). 2 - Seems like there's something funky with the room key/booking system, since we were given access to an already occupied room and our keys stopped working at another point during our stay. 3 - Please, please put minifridges in the rooms! There are so many great restaurants around, and food waste is a huge problem -- we would have thrown out way less food if we'd had a place to put our leftovers.
TL;DR: A few minor downfalls, like any place is going to have. But otherwise: Super clean, quirky rooms. Personable, accommodating staff. Inviting atmosphere. Would stay here again & recommend to...
Read moreThis was my first time staying at a Moxy hotel. These are a funkier, local-centric type of hotel offering, which was a lot of fun compared to the stuffier, sterile places most hotels seem to fall into. The ambiance and service were top notch. Your bartender is your check-in staff, which was kinda fun and cool. The downstairs lobby area is designed as a common room with fireplace, board games, a taco restaurant, and of course, a bar. It was neat to have this mutual hangout, and there were quite a bit of folks milling about down there having a drink, noshing some tacos, and just chatting.
The big common room is somewhat essential though, as the rooms are pretty small. When checking in, we were told Moxy is more of a "European-Style" hotel, with few room appointments and geared toward spending more time in the common area. I would have to agree with that, as our room was small (think New York or Tokyo apartment) and didn't have a lot of amenities that you'd normally see in a hotel (in-room coffee maker, refrigerator, etc.) Most of the extra appliances were available upon request, and coffee was served in the common areas.
Location is spectacular though. We had a room overlooking the YUM! Center, just a minute's walk from Whiskey Row. We had plenty of food, drink, and entertainment options right next to the hotel, so you really can't beat the location if you plan on checking out the local distilleries, museums, and restaurants.
In general, this stay made me a believer in Moxy hotels. Our bartender told us each Moxy is designed around the town in which it is located, so each experience is unique. While I hope some my offer a larger room (I'm a big dude, I need some extra space to move around in), I really like the vibes and want to see what other city's Moxy hotels...
Read moreThe hotel is very “hip” definitely for a younger clientele. We were in City for basketball tournament had 5 nite stay. The front desk is located at the bar. You feel like you’re walking into a nite club, which was different but I liked it. Some of the front desk staff were very friendly & helpful (especially young lady with a slight possibly Russian? accent) she went out of her way to answers questions & bring extra towels & toiletries to our room. Some others on staff not so much. A lot of standing around & on their phones not attending to guests..you felt like you were interrupting them. No one from the bar at night would go to tables or clean empty glasses/btls from table. Guests are pretty much on their own for getting cocktails & cleaning tables. Rooms had no fridge, had to buy styrofoam coolers & constantly ask for ice bags from front desk (no ice dispensers). Also, no onsite laundry. The rooms were very narrow and tight, needed more counter/table top. No closets or dressers had to hang clothes on wall pegs. For one or two nites it might be ok but for five nites, not so much. The shower & sink are technically in the same room as the beds, not a lot of privacy....just a curtain. The toilet in its own closed door room was a plus. The lobby area offered a lot of games & activities for our group of girls, nice cozy lounge area too. Would have been nice if they offered some food at bar to snack on. I hear they are attempting to add a taco bar, which would be a great idea. Overall the decor was “cool” and the place had a nice vibe but not meant for long stays more than one...
