I attended my first and last drop in at the St Matt. location as an adult tapper recently. I had seen online that this studio approached things a bit more in a serious manner, and that is definitely accurate. It is not for everyone, as for me I am more tapping just as a fun hobby. I do think the content being taught was good however the instructor’s method of teaching was way too aggressive for my liking. If it’s your first class at a new studio you probably don’t want to be nit-picked and called out the whole class, especially in such a blunt and unkind way. Constructive feedback is one thing, however barking corrections the whole class and just expecting new students to know how to do things your way, being hostile and talking down to people is very uncomfortable. I’ve never before experienced such a hostile environment and safe to say I will not be returning. There are lots of other options in the Kentuckiana area and I would not recommend this instructor at least. She did apologize to me after I walked out of her class and I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say maybe she is truly a nice person however that is not the impression I received. I felt undermined and bullied leaving this class and very disheartened as a dancer. I hope that future dancers here would be treated with more patience...
Read moreThe Louisville Ballet has put on some fantastic performances. I have enjoyed “The Nutcracker” and “Romeo & Juliet.” The dancers are wonderful, and they are truly spectacular to watch. What the Louisville Ballet has produced from what I have seen, has been terrific.
However, the top leadership of the Louisville Ballet leaves much to be desired. They are not very accommodating for neurodivergent or queer employees, and in spite of the wonderful experiences I have had watching their performances, I cannot in good conscience support Louisville Ballet by attending any more of their performances or recommend anyone go to their performances until there has been marked change in their leadership and how it treats employees. I also recommend against anyone who would donate their money to the Ballet for this reason, as well.
There are other organizations in Louisville who produce wonderful art of all kinds who are also friendly and inclusive to all.
I reiterate, I do not recommend the Louisville Ballet or supporting...
Read moreDisgusted by this ballet’s performance of Sleeping Beauty. A “modernized” version of a timeless classic, translates to ridiculous costumes and sexualization flaunted on stage. I took my 3 young daughters and aunt to see this during a STUDENT MATINEE! Shortly after it began I knew right away this was not a classic ballet of Sleeping Beauty. I was willing to be tolerant of this reimagined ballet… But when the men in leather straps for tops came out on stage and stripped the MC down to his sparkly speedo I quickly ushered my family OUT!! Sadly the hundreds of public school kids had to be subjected to the remainder of the performance. Extremely disappointed in the Louisville Ballet, The Brown Theater and every single adult who thought it was an appropriate show for...
