I’ve been in the local mountain bike community for almost 20 years and have been to every bike shop in the area. Louisville Cyclery is relatively close so I always want to like them but every interaction I’ve ever had with them has been disappointing and extremely aggravating.
A few years ago, I was having an issue with my XTR rear derailleur and brought it in for service. Not only could they not resolve the issue, but they charged me to get my bike back. I asked why would they charge me if they hadn’t actually resolved the problem, and the response I got was “you’re lucky we’re only charging you this amount. We spent SO much time researching it!” I took it to Boulder Cycle Sport and they took care of it right then and there and I walked out with a ridable bike.
I hadn’t stepped foot back in Louisville Cyclery since then. Until earlier this week. I had a simple warranty claim for a SRAM shifter. They told me to go through the shop where I bought the bike. I asked if they weren’t an authorized SRAM dealer and they said they were but I should really go through the shop where I’d bought the bike. Which is 100% not true. If a shop is an authorized SRAM or Shimano dealer, they can submit warranty claims regardless of where the bike was purchased (presuming the warranty requirements are met.) She then told me that they could definitely sell me a new one which was absolutely infuriating. They didn’t want to spend any time or energy on something that wouldn’t bring them an immediate sale but didn’t hesitate to try and get me to spend money for something that didn’t need replacing in the first place.
So I went to the Trek store in Broomfield (old Golden Bear Bikes). I didn’t buy my bike from there either but they submitted a warranty claim with SRAM that day and were absolutely amazing to deal with.
I’ve never written a Google review before but I felt I had to communicate how absolutely horrible every experience I’ve ever had with them has been. They’re the worst bike shop in the area and I will never, ever go there again. Save yourself some frustration (and money) and go to the old Golden Bear (now Trek store), Boulder Cycle Sport, or Sports Garage. They will actually...
Read moreLouisville Cyclery and Trek engaged in deceptive marketing practices through their respective websites, Trek and Louisville Cyclery. I drove about 30 minutes to the Louisville Cyclery location after seeing the Air Rush pump on the Trek website as in stock at Louisville Cyclery and on the Louisville Cyclery website. Once arriving, I learn the Air Rush is not in stock and was immediately trying to be sold another product. They had said, "They sold the last one this morning". However, on the Trek website, the Air Rush is still available at Louisville Cyclery. The product is also shown as available for pickup on the Louisville Cyclery website. This time, I purchased the "available" Air Rush online and received a receipt and order number for the "in stock" unit at the Louisville Cylcery location. I got back to Louisville Cylcery, and the unit is not available. I would not recommend visiting this location or shopping online. The Trek website still lists the Air Rush available at Losivlle Cyclery two hours later when it is not in stock. Deceptive marketing and misleading the customer. Disappointed in Trek and their dealer here. Additionally, Louisville Cycelry still shows the Air Rush as available on...
Read moreHorrible experience feeling like they care only about money. My son flipped over his handlebars Friday on the way to school - pretty banged up but nothing broken except his front wheel. Dad took him into the shop (as that’s how he gets to school every day) Friday evening to get repair. Was quoted 150$ for a tune-up and told all together it would be 250$ and we should just buy a new bike! Clearly that seemed outrageous so we chose to do nothing. I asked my neighbor to look at it as he races bikes and rides to work daily - he said the gear adjustment was literally two screws, took the wheel off and said yes we needed a new rim, but sent me to a local shop who got the part for $45 dollars. My neighbor spent about 30 min fixing gears and brakes and will pop the new rim and tire on it. I’m left feeling like all they care about is making money. 250$ for what ended up costing 45$. If you add the neighbors time of 30 min, you have to ask - why are they quoting $250? I get people are skilled and have overhead but that seems absurd. I’ll never go there - recommend you don’t either as I was left feeling like they seem less interested in community than how...
