On December 4th, 2017, I was looking on line for "Primaloft Packaway" ladies' jacket for my wife. LL Bean' s web site showed they were all out of stock. On a whim I called their new store at Legacy Village (outside of Cleveland). I was told by a young lady that they DID have them in stock. In fact, they happened to have one in blue in my wife's size. Perfect!. My wife's birthday was the following Monday and I planned on taking her to dinner at her favorite restaurant in the same shopping center on Sunday, the 10th. I told this to the rep, who said she would be glad to hold it for me until then. I offered my credit card number just to secure it, and was told that that was not necessary. She took my name and I thanked her. After dinner on Sunday we strolled over to LLBean. I was looking forward to surprising her. I walked up to the first employee I saw in the women's department and said "I have a coat on hold" and I gave her my name. She asked when I ordered it. I said this past Monday. She then gave me a dissertation on their policy regarding "holds" and that "they never hold an item for more than a day". I started to explain the story, but was dismissed, again, because they "just don't do that. I told her the item in question and asked if she can check. She said "I'll look, but it probably won't be there. We don't have that in stock". I repeated my last name to her a few times, but I could see that she wasn't really paying attention. About 5 minutes later she came out with 2 jackets in black, not blue, and both were different sizes, neither the one I had requested. My wife asked if it came in blue. The employee said it did not, but look at these other ones and that she would check on something. We glanced at a few things while waiting for the next 10 minutes. At that point, I was humiliated at the surprise that never happened and quite aggravated with the experience, so we both left. I feel that I was treated like I was trying to pull a scam or flat-out lying. It doesn't matter what their employees promise, because if it's against company policy, then obviously the customer has to be making it up. I do not reward companies that are arrogant, dismissive, or indifferent (and almost accusatory) with my money and patronage. The $200-250 or so I would have been happy to spend with LLBean was instead spent with a different company, as will all...

Read moreI went there to buy a ski rack. The salesman said 'I don't have them on the floor, but I will bring it out.' Then proceeded to show me all of the ski racks in the Thule catalog, asking which one I wanted. I told him 'the cheapest'. He disappeared into the back room for about 45 minutes. After comming back, it turns out that they don't sell ski racks...
I returned to the store again for some new Nordic ski boots to replace the ones I purchased from a reall LL Bean store, they were getting pretty ratty after many years of use. However, this clothing store does not sell skis nor ski boots.
If you want to buy clothing that makes it look like you are an outdoors enthusiast, but don't want the hassle of doing outdoor activities then this is the store for you!
Apparently LL Bean has not learned from the mistakes of every other outdoor company that turned their outfitter business model into a clothing store which rides on fashion fads. Eddie Bauer literally just closed their store across the street. Good luck to you Bean. I choose...
