Altar’d State is unfortunately going downhill. I’ve been a frequent customer since this location opened and the employees used to be very friendly and attentive. Now there are a few newer employees who seem annoyed and give dirty looks.
One of the employees forgot to put my friend’s item in the bag that she paid for, and we noticed after leaving. Upon calling from outside, the woman on the phone pretended to look for the item and lied saying it wasn’t there. However, we could see it clearly from the window and the woman did not even go near it.
We stood in the cold outside while the employee kept stalling and saying she was “looking.”
The woman appeared at the door empty-handed, and then began insisting it was an online order, which it wasn’t, because it was physically in our hands and placed on the counter. One of the items was online, but one wasn’t and the cashier assured us it was fine. This employee at the door kept arguing back and wouldn’t resolve it and give the paid-for item.
Even if it was a mistake and she made it online by accident, then this woman should have made some effort to fix it, but her attitude made it clear that she just wanted to go home.
Her only solution was for us to wait outside in the dark, cold while she goes inside to call the corporate office to cancel the order entirely. We didn’t want to cancel it, we just wanted the item that was paid for and not placed in the bag.
We already wasted our time, also my friend is disabled with a walker and can’t stand for long, so we gave up and left, not knowing if the order will ever arrive. If it doesn’t, we’ll probably just have to dispute the charge as a scam.
I hope the unprofessional Altar’d State employees can get some training on how to “alter” their incompetence and sloppiness, but it seems more like an attitude issue or they hate their job. It stinks because we always loved this store and its friendly employees. For example, Kat was amazing along with some other employees on...
Read moreI was walking around the shopping area and popped into a few stores, but this was the only one where I was actually greeted and helped. I think everyone working there assisted me at some point, which made a big difference. I travel around Massachusetts often and visit multiple locations of this store, and honestly, most of them act like I’m invisible. This location is the exception—friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. It’s now my go-to spot when...
