Update 6/27/22 - Zack from 4WP called me back and personally apologized for any miscommunication we had previous. I'm very happy he did as I've had a good relationship with this store and their employees. Besides this one incident they have been knowledgeable, kind and have been an awesome go-to store for my overland built FJ cruiser.
We worked out a deal in which I compromised and was fairly compensated for not being able to return the tent. I appreciate them extending the effort to make this unfortunate situation right for both company and consumer. My faith in their customer service was restored and I will definitely return to buy more from them knowing they will do their best in all senses of the word. Thanks again Zack!
Original review 6/23/22 - in the last 2 months I've spent about 6K upgrading my Fj cruiser at this 4WP location. Unfortunately it seems that now that I've spent my money, they are not keen on providing quality service or standing by their warranty/return policy. I bought a Smittybuilt hardshell RTT on approximately 6/9 and had them install. Upon installation I noticed the tent wasn't perfect and they told me to "use it carefully" as the tent was slightly larger than my roof rack. They said "I may need to add another bar to my roof to create full stability" so I said I would order one before I slept in it.
When I got home that night, I proceeded to open the tent to check its quality and, with caution, I set up the bed. For the next 2 hours I attempted to close the tent but unfortunately the struts were not lining up. I call 4wp the first thing the next day and explain that I opened the tent once and now cannot close it. When I came in later that day, they diagnosed that I bent the tent setting up the bedding.
I explained to them that I put very little weight on the bed and I expressed that I was concerned at the overall quality of the tent. furthermore i was concerned that they would still install a tent did not properly fit my vehicle. As they were the ones who installed it, I had never seen it until it was already on the car so I had no choice in returning it before install. Zack, The store manager, told me it wasn't a big deal as I bought the warranty and he will order me a new one to install ASAP. Despite my hesitation on the quality I said ok solely on the fact that if it still didn't work the second time I figured they would have no problem doing a return as they obviously sold and installed a product which did not fit my vehicle. I told Zack that day that I think returning the tent would be a better option as I was worried about the second one also having issues. Zack coerced me into settling for the warranty and I had faith he would make it right if anything out of my control happened.
On 6/17 my second tent arrived and was installed by them. I immediately installed a 5th roof bar as they had requested I should. They further had reassured me that is all I would need for the tent to fit properly and not bend. On 6/18 I went on a 2 day camping trip with friends very excited to use the tent for the first time and let me just say that the tent is a nightmare. The extra crossbar whistles, its hard to close and it still doesn't fit my car properly. I was still very much concerned with the overall quality.
On 6/21 I called 4WP again explaining my situation and after careful consideration, I wanted to take advantage of the awesome return policy that they proudly boast on their website. To my dismay Zack said that I wouldn't be able to return the tent because, despite it's still perfect condition, it had been used. I wouldn't have had a problem with this if it was under normal circumstances, however they understood my hesitation the first time I had a issue with it and now I cannot help but feel as if I've been manipulated into this situation by not returning the tent the first time I had a issue. Feel free to get in contact with me as I would love to resolve this matter with as little abrasion...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had a leaking axel seal on our 2001 Toyota Tundra that we dropped off to be serviced. After picking up the truck we noticed issues with the brakes. The ABS was engaging when it shouldn't have, any slow stop or light application of the brake pedal, the ABS would engage. It didn't have this issue before being serviced and we know they had to disengage the brakes to do the seal replacement, so we gave them a call and we were told to drop it off again and they would look at it. We stopped by the following Saturday during business hours to find they were closed. There was no note on the door, no recorded message on their phone line, no post on social media. We waited for about 20 minutes in case it was a lunch break or something. Within that time 3 other customers came by, one couple drove from Issaquah. Needless to say, not very happy. We left our truck behind using the key drop and left a voicemail stating that we were leaving the truck behind to be looked at, per our phone conversation earlier in the week. Mid day Monday we hadn't heard anything, so we gave them a call to follow up. We were told it was all good and were given the same quote for unrelated work when we had initially picked up the truck after the axel seal work. We asked if the ABS issue was resolved, and we were told they hadn't looked into it, which was the whole point of dropping it off the 2nd time. No word by the end of business Monday, so Tuesday we gave them a call to find out the status. They said they bled the brake system and it was once again good to go. We picked up the truck today and after about 5 minutes down the road, the ABS engages again and now the truck pulls to the left. Fed up, we drove another 7 minutes down the road to Les Schwab. We gave Total Off Road a call and after being on hold for 30+ minutes, we explained the issue had not been resolved and it is once again, worse than when we dropped it off. They didn't seem to care less. Insisted they looked at it from top to bottom. I would highly recommend you avoid getting any work done at total off road. You should never leave a shop with your vehicle being in worse shape and unsafe to drive. You shouldn't have to followup every time to find out your vehicle is "ready". If you're going to close shop during business hours, the least you can do is put a sign on your door. Bad customer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRegrettable. I called the store and asked if they had coil spring spacers, to lift the vehicle. I explained that I had a foreign 4x4 truck and that what would work is smtg from another maker for another similar but domestic type vehicle. They assured me that they had countless items I could try and that I should bring my coil spring in to see if one of their items could be compatible with it. I went to the store and explained to the salesperson what kind of truck I had and that I was looking for a close alternative. The salesperson said he only had these two pieces that were not even close to fitting. I shared what the rep on the phone had told me and that I didn't want to waste the 45 min drive to the store. He got on the phone and asked his supplier if he had anything for my vehicle, totally missing the point. As he was on the phone I went looking about the store only to find a large selection of what I was looking for. When I mentioned the discovery to the salesperson he explained that those were leveling kits, not lift kits. Well not only did the salesperson take me for a fool but also did not understand that most parts have more than one description. I asked to go through the boxes as some of them were already open, and another staff shouted over, Those boxes are taped and not to break the seals. None of them were. I found a set that would work but could not shake how dismissive the staff was once they heard that I drove smtg that they did not sell a pre-made kit for. The 2 staff members I dealt with were stand-offish and not willing to go outside their very limited comfort zones apparently. Maybe it was laziness, maybe it lack of imagination or intelligence. Maybe this store could incorporate the term "Help Yourself" into its name. I will never go back there. I did not fit the typical mold and was told to shop elsewhere. And it is too bad. All of the industry great ideas come out of custom builts. Its discouraging that this store caters to such a low common denominator. I'd rather fab it myself than buy it from them. Even if I drove a jeep I don't think that they would have helped me. If your desires aren't outside the box then this is probably your store. If you need something other than common, don't waste your time. 90 minute drive...
