Catch 22 — Local services in Mackinaw Township

We went to this store on a recent trip to Mackinac City and decided to get matching hoodies as mementos. We asked the guy how much it would be for a shirt similar to the one on the rack and he danced all around the question and told us that we could put anything we wanted on it. Again we asked how much for one just like the one on the rack... he again changed the subject and pointed out the many different decals they carried. So without thinking we picked out two hoodies and decorated them to our hearts content thinking that they were like most of the other stores we'd been in there that offer free decals with purchase of clothing. He proceeded to recommend this and that and talked us into lettering and all sorts of different decals. One on the front, one on the back one on the hood, two down the sleeves etc etc etc. When we were finished he proceeded to ring them up. The total came to a whopping $163 for two hoodies. No name brand at that. When I heard the total I asked him with a shocked look on my face had he ever done this before and has anyone ever told him there was no way they were going to pay that amount. He stated that it had happened once but he threatened to call the police and they ended up purchasing them, and besides that he had given us a great discount deal on them. Before I could say another word he snatched my credit card out of my hand and ran it thru the reader just as fast as humanily possible! I was dumbfounded to say the least. To make this story even worse we left the store and immediately ran into a family with the same type jackets including the same decals. We had to ask them where they got them and how much they paid and she politely pointed out a different store and said she paid almost $90 for the 4 of them!!! 4 of them!!! I wanted to drop to my knees and die. They look great I have to be honest about that part, but they don't look $163 great. Stay away from this store....there are much cheaper ones just down the street....

My wife and I decided to shop in this establishment during a recent stay in Mackinaw City. We noticed displays of long sleeve t-shirts in the store with a sign displaying a price of $19.99. We were aggressively approached by the staff repeatedly while we were trying to decide on a design that we like enough to purchase. Finally after deliberation, I had decided on a design again displaying $19.99, only in a different color, and my wife had decided on a long sleeve t-shirt with only 1 decal. Another staff member began assembling the shirts often stating how good they were going to look, and one statement of mine being the expensive one. After completing the assembly of the shirts the young lady approached me with a piece of paper and began writing and stating individual prices for the t-shirts, decals, etc. totaling $83.00. Upon noticing my bewildered look the employee stated she would reduce the price to $75 eliminating the tax. I proceeded to purchase the items wishing not to cause a scene in the store.

Upon investigation, I have found out that the store must provide you with an estimate before assembling the shirts. If you are not pleased with the price, you are not obligated to purchase the items. This was further supported after discussion with the operations manager for the store. So I would strongly suggest insisting on a price before pursuing purchases, with the option of leaving this establishment to shop at another store that is more forthcoming. Was excited when we went into the store. The young lady who was working was very friendly and gave us time to chose our purchase. We purchased two jackets at a very good price. Walked out feeling like we would definitely go back when visiting Mackinaw. Once we got home we realized that one of the jackets was missing the hood. Many attempts to reach someone by phone has been a failure. No answer, hang up or picked and put on hold or laid the phone down. I am greatly disappointed. It would be nice if somehow someone from the store could at least contact to discuss our options in...
