My fiance had been dealing with a "Ovarian cyst" marathon told her she had back in May when she was having pains. We saw the gyno and had a upcoming consultation coming up for surgery, however she was having extreme pain and discomfort and was running a fever for 5 days. A very high fever. We took her to the ER in marathon. Dr. Burch immediately came in the room and said he would do her blood work but if her blood work was normal he didn't see the use of doing scans. They ran her blood work and said it was "completely normal" I asked if he could explain the severe pain and high fever he said he couldn't but it's not a emergency and recommends we follow up with the Dr. I then tried to explain to him we did feel as if it was a emergency considering her severe abdominal pain and high fever we can't get to go down and he says this is a emergency room and there isn't much else we can do. And discharged her, we then went to key west hospital and they said by her heart rate and severe fever they believe she is septic they ran blood cultures and she indeed was septic, she had to have emergency surgery in key west and have her appendix removed along with a large cyst connected to her appendix because it was so infected and got into her blood stream and was the cause ofnher being septic. She was on IV antibiotics for 4 days after surgery. I read her blood test from fisherman's and it was not normal and Dr. Burch told us it was, did not run cultures on her blood and did not look at further into it. Dr. Burch turned us away in a emergency situation and put her life at risk. I'm outraged at the service we received from fisherman's hospital. Don't...
Read moreI was told my Dr was admitting me for hypocalalemia I Got my vital signs taken and I replaced in my arm. They did one battery of lab work a CBC and an EKG. My potassium went up from 1.9 to 2.5 after that they told me OK well you can go home now your potassium should be OK for your surgery, which was scheduled for Yesterday which was Tuesday the second they never did a second potassium level to see where my potassium was at that point. They just discharged me home now I have to go through this again now I have to go up to Fort Lauderdale and have them admit me give me more potassium and IV fluids I was not impressed at all Natalie, the nurse she was awesome. Great I gave her an A+ the rest of the staff I was not too impressed at all. I still do not know what my actual potassium is because they never did a second draw, but I was supposed to be admitted for hypokalemia and they never did it. They did not follow the doctors orders , I think you can have a big staff meeting about this. I’m a retired nurse and I would never do what was done to me. The doctor gave an order. The order was not done. I never saw a doctor at all. I asked for pain medication that I am on Q4 hours and they offered me Percocet and I’m on oxycodone. I asked for another dose about an hour later and they told me when you refused the Percocet. Yes I did because it makes me sick. They are for me, Lortab, Lortab, and Percocet are basically the same thing me being a nurse I know I know what my body can handle of what I can so they didn’t follow my instructions or any other doctors instructions...
Read moreWent in for lasting symptoms from recent occurrence of heat exhaustion that did not seem to be resolving.
Intake receptionist was efficient, professional, friendly and caring. First nurse who called me back (I think, as no one introduced themselves) took a history with as much interest as if she was talking to concrete wall). Then a tech came in to do an EKG with no introduction or explanation of why she was doing an ekg. Physician came in and appeared to disregard what I told her happened that preceded the heat exhaustion event and my history with heat exhaustion. She initially came off as dismissive saying I probably had the flu and made a sarcastic remark. When I said “that sounded sarcastic”, she back peddled a little and slightly elaborated. No bedside manner, No professionalism and quite dismissive. New Nurse came in for Blood work. Friendly and professional. Physician came back and asked if IV fluids were already done.. no one had even started .. she turned and left… didn’t see her again. Nurse came in started fluids. She came back 45 minutes later and fluids still only half way done…said Physician was discharging me with standard instructions for heat exhaustion (ironically the symptoms to return to ER on the handout were the reasons I had come). Shift change Shoutout to Nurse Jim. He was professional and caring and took the time to explain how to handle to my symptoms. After over a 4 hour visit, the last 5 minutes with Nurse Jim were the most valuable. I would absolutely check which docs are on duty before ever coming again. but likely would not...
