My expectations were a little low when I realized we'd be ordering via counter service and then waiting for your food to be prepared and your favorite animal name to be called. Then you carry the food to your chosen table. However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food as well as the counter service helpfulness.
I've had the grouper platter both blackened as well as grilled, Both are fantastic, It was the best grouper I've had in the Keys, and we've eaten at several high-end restaurants. I've also ordered the mahi mahi platter. It was also excellent both blackened as well as grilled.
Other family members ordered the oysters and they said those were good as well. The smashed potatoes were also excellent, as were the black beans. The steamed veggies of broccoli and carrots were also very good, firm not wilty.
I believe they had a full bar. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita which was great; it was better than the one I ordered at the luxury hotel. They also have Pepsi and all the related sodas. They also have free water which you can get with or without ice, also excellent.
For entertainment there's some small sharks and other fish outside that can be fed for free, just asked at the ordering stand. That was quite interesting as they allow you to feed them the leftover skeletons of fish after filleting.
The seating is outdoors they have an upstairs and a downstairs.
The only complaint I have is that I would not hire the bartender in a customer service position. She needs a little...
Read moreHome of the original and completely unique Lobster Reuben! We saw this on a giant billboard and of course our curiosity was peaked! The Keys Fisheries is a lovely hidden place right at the end of the road, sitting right along the water and a small boat dock, providing the perfect island view as you eat. When you order, they always have a question of the day and whatever your answer is, is what they call out when your order is ready, so the day we went it was your favorite sports team, and I thought that was such a cute and different, fun way to go about that. We tried, the lobster reuben, of course. I have to say, it’s definitely one of the weirdest, most palet-challenging things I’ve tried yet, considering I don’t really even like regular reubens all that much, but I have to say somehow they made this combo work. There tons of small chunks of lobster in the sandwich and the acidity of the sauce along with the sourkraut- it’s odd, yet enjoyable. Like, I really, really liked it! Also, the conch chowder was fantastic, it was a broth base with tomato and other veggies chunks so it was different from what I expected but it was delicious and I wish I had gotten a bigger size, haha. And the key lime pie was on point as well, definitely one of the best we had during our keys trip! My dad tried a lavender hibiscus beer (yes, sounds very odd as well), but it was actually pretty nice, “refreshing” as he put it- so for you alcohol drinkers I think there’s some fun and good-tasting drinks to try here as well. I’d...
Read moreWe were a party of seven having dinner one night while out. We were told this place was really good and i can tell you, IT IS. But there are a couple of things you should keep in mind before going here. First of all, lower your expectations as far as the place itself. They are a "modified" boat dock turned into a restaurant. That is not a problem to me at all because all i care about is service and food. Don't expect white tablecloth and silverware. One more important point to note is that they have a bar on the "second level" that is ADULTS ONLY, no kids can go in at all. They serve lots of drinks and the menu IS different. If you want oysters and claws, you must go upstairs, so we ended up eating downstairs because of the kids. The line is normally really long (you order the food yourself at the window), but it does go fast unless the kitchen hits a snag, which they did. We waited about 30-40 min to order on a weeknight (during spring break) They do have plenty of great and fresh options and we ordered seven different dishes, they were all really good and very fresh. From mac n cheese to lobster tails, all was up to expectations. This is also a nice place to see the sun set from the tables below or the bar upstairs. Oh, and they feed the fish scraps from the kitchen, so you get to see some huge fish eating in front of you, including a shark. To resume, yes, we would go back in a heartbeat as a family or as a...
