Caselās is for convenience. Beyond that the store is one of the biggest rip offs Iāve ever visited in my opinion. Their prices often have no relation to reality. You want a cut up large bowl of watermelon? $32. THIRTY TWO DOLLARS. Now look at Cole slaw. Go to any normal supermarket and the retail price for a head of cabbage - the primary ingredient - is a bit over $1 a pound. Naturally, Caselās sells cole slaw at $8.99 or twice or more what youād pay in normal market. And they buy their cabbage wholesale!!!! An avocado? $3 each. A normal supermarket - $2 or less. And donāt get me started on their store made rice pudding. I saw a container of it for like $14. 22 oz of nationally sold Kozy shack? $4.99 at acme and even less than half the price per pound at Caselās itself! Look at their corn on the cob. $5/5 ears. Youāll pay more for two ears if they shuck it for you and put it in a tray with plastic wrap.
Some things are not crazy. But generally speaking, I believe most things are cheaper elsewhere. Some, even perhaps many, way cheaper.
They remind me of a store that doesnāt just increase their price to cover the nationally known inflation, but uses that inflation to overinflate.
Fresh meat and fish? Well, the fish - on a shore community it seems very sub par. But then there is the meat. Some of prices their cuts - even lesser cuts like short ribs - are just absolutely ridiculous.
I suspect that once the seasonal people leave, prices may fall. But Iām not confident. What I am confident in is my opinion that this is a rip off store that plays off a long time reputation that no longer applies and people who value convenience at a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThank you for the great buys on the specials flyers! Cheaper than Acme on many products! As a year round senior resident I must watch what I spend. Convenience and quality count for something and I am glad to pay a bit more for that at times. You must buy with a discerning eye and pocketbook. I love Caselās fresh produce department. Some products are high but some are very reasonable - again, comparing to Acme. Lox, Nova, Corned beef, off the bone turkey and store baked roast beef are of the best quality- expensive but we should cut back on deli foods for health reasons anyway, so if you eat it once in a while, itās ok to spend more- or wait for the sales flyer and buy your favorites at huge discounts and freeze. One thing I did find shocking were refrigerated jarred pickle prices. It was $8 more per jar in Caselās than in a small specialty deli on the mainland. Thatās a crazy difference- I hope it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSpotless clean supermarket. Awesome deli! Only use Boar's Head meats, top quality and always delicious! However, you will have to pay top dollar for the quality. This store offers a very good bakery n has certain items specialty made, again expensive. If you need something quick like bread or milk, to hold you over until you can get to a larger named supermarket, this store will allow you to do so. Unless money is no object and you don't mind paying dollars more for the same item you can acquire at an Acme or Shoprite, I would wait to go to a larger, well known store to do a large shopping order.
Also, there is a sign, as you enter the store, clearly stating the store does not participate in Federal Food Stamp, EBT program. This is something I have personally have never seen.
I've given the store 3 stars due to high pricing for items dollars cheaper elsewhere. The cleanliness and quality of food is...
