We scheduled a tour on a Monday in the beginning of April for 5:30. Upon arriving, Dawn told us that they don’t do tours after 5 and because of the fire they wouldn’t have any apartments available for the beginning of May (when we were looking to move in). Ronnie quickly jumped in informing her that they show apartments until close and they did in fact have some apartments available. After the tour we were talking in the office about what we were looking for and Dawn continued to try and tell Ronnie there would be nothing available, even though he was looking at multiple available apartments on his computer. We left and Ronnie was supposed to send us information on the apartments welooked at. He never sent any information but I went ahead and applied. From there I had to call numerous times to see if we got approved because no one reached out to us. That was the first red flag. From there they were the absolute worst people to try and get ahold of. No one answers the phone and if you leave a voicemail don’t expect a call back. If we were actually able to talk to someone it was usually Dawn and she would say “oh I’m looking at your file right now, I’ll give you a call back in just a minute.” Again, would never get a call back. Eventually I had to physically go up to the office a few days before our move in date just see what was going on. We had not received any sort of welcome letter, lease, or just simply been told what apartment we were moving in to. Once in the office I spoke with Jerry and he told us we were getting an apartment on the 3rd floor when we had specifically requested a walk up apartment. So the next day he calls and said they were able to find an apartment and we would do a walkthrough on Friday, a day before our scheduled move in date. Dawn told me to go ahead to the apartment and she would meet me there. Upon arriving I immediately see 2 dead roaches in the pantry/ laundry area and numerous live spiders. On the patio were about 5 spider webs with numerous egg sacs in them, a dead roach, bird seed everywhere, and trash. About that time Dawn shows up asking what I thought. I pointed out the numerous spiders/ roaches and webs. She then says “Oh my gosh, when I was here this morning none of this was here.” I’m sorry but that’s impossible, she probably never even went to the apartment beforehand. Then she walks me to the guest bathroom and points out a crack in the ceiling stating that there was a leak but it was all fixed and they installed a new toilet and resurfaced the tub. As we walked the apartment I was still killing multiple live spiders inside. She told me that pest control did spray so this should be the last bit of bugs but she would get them back out immediately to spray again. I asked her to please call me once they left so I could come back and clean before moving stuff in the next day. She said “Yes, Absolutely!” It got to be about 8:00pm and I still had not heard anything so I went ahead to the apartment. It was clear no one had been there. All the same dead bugs, patio was untouched and the ceiling was leaking all over the floor and toilet. I immediately sent an email to the office stating everything that I saw and from there my husband and I decided to terminate the lease. It was less than 12 hours after I signed. The next morning we went to return the keys. They were supposed to be open at 10:00. Ronnie comes strolling in still in his pajamas around 10:30 or so. My husband goes in to talk to him and he said that the apartment we were supposed to move into wasn’t even ready to be moved into and that they had been having issues with that leak. We just asked to get our deposit back and move on. Ronnie wrote up an agreement stating we would come Tuesday morning to pick up the deposit and officially terminate the lease. Needless to say the manager said we would not be getting our money back and that we would have to pay even more to get out of the lease. STAY AWAY!!! They don’t care about you or your well being. I am 9 months pregnant and would never bring a newborn into that...
Read moreJasmine was a really big help after having our leasing app pending for 9 days , we finally came into the leasing office and she made our leasing experience very smooth and needless to say , unlike most places the leasing experience was so easy !I highly recommend Briggs!
UPDATE: So my visit went smoothly on the day I posted this and we left very happy.. Even got an upgraded apartment for the same price because the apartment we originally were supposed to move into still had tenants in the unit and so jasmine helped us out and got us into an even better unit and we looked at it.. It wasn’t ready yet but even so the apartment was decent and there were not any bugs like I see so many people complaining about so we had no doubt by the time we move in on march 14(3 days from now) that the apartment will be great! We were told on our in person visit the only thing they had left to do was verify income so that got verified and afterwards we were told our approval was with conditions which means an extra 1k deposit. That’s cool though because I know our credit history is not great so that was expected. Upon leaving we were told we would be receiving a welcome home email and to be on the lookout for it. Well Friday, Saturday and Sunday pass with no email or phone call. Monday I got up and started calling and having utilities put in place and I even ended up paying the power company a $200 deposit and the gas company a $50 deposit so that they would have my utilities turned on the day we move in. Called and arranged a u haul and ordered new furniture. Also called Xfinity to come out too. HOWEVER.. After I did all that , because I was not made aware they were still waiting on a significant piece of information that’s required Which is the background check!! I called to find out where the email was so I could sign and pay and be ready to go Friday.. I was only THEN made aware they are still waiting on our background checks and so that right there really confused us because we were under the impression everything was finished except the employment verification which we had taken care of so supposedly everything was good to go. We had no reason whatsoever to think we were waiting on anything else especially the background since we originally did our application on the 21st of February and here we are going on 18 days of the process so now I’m really not certain what’s going on or why this would happen. It’s kinda backwards to have a resident told they are conditionally approved and show them a unit and offer them the unit and give a move in date and also give information on utilities and then not mention there was still a pending CRITICAL piece that needed to be completed before it’s official. So now I feel in limbo about what is happening. After getting all these utilities and ordering furniture and giving the place we live a move out date of Friday this is very stressful not having everything in place due to lack of communication or whatever the case. I read all these terrible reviews before I ever came to Briggs but honestly I wanted to give it a chance and see for myself and it felt like people were wrong or at least it felt our personal experience was going to be different. Honestly I hope to still end up having a good experience and not having any issues but to be put in a situation of uncertainty after being given the reassurance everything was in order is beyond upsetting. I’m hoping that jasmine comes through for us like we feel she did when we met in person because she’s the only one helpful individual who is a reliable resource for Briggs at the moment as far as we can see because our application should have never taken this many weeks to get submitted and we definitely should not be feeling uncertain and anxious after everything we’ve put into trying to get situated to have a stress free transition into our new home. I will give another update once I know what’s happening but until then I’m just waiting. My advice to anyone is to ASK QUESTIONS.. EVERY question possible to make sure you are without a...
Read moreIm probably not gonna get my admin fee back because of this but PLEASE READ THIS AND BEWARE!!!! I came and seen this apartment late Sept and it was between this one and another one. I settled on this one and applied 10/05 with move in date 10/11 I called everyday to speak with kenia who was helping with my move in process. She never answered emails or called back. 10/11(keep in mind thats my move in date) I came on my lunch break to see what was going on because I was tired of getting the run around. Samuel another leasing agent stepped in after calling kenia and speaking spanish (which I do understand) and they were talking about how the property wasnt finished and what should he do. He pushed my move in to 10/14 at 6 pm ( which they did strategically) My lease is up for the apartment I had prev 10/15 it was cutting it close but I had already paid all my app amd admin fees so I had to go with it. 10/14 comes and I come in at our scheduled time, Samuel the previous agent (who set the appt time and day) was confused why I was there as he said they dont typically do moves in that late and I then told him he told me to come at this time he then explains kenia hasnt put together a move in packet and calls her where there speaking spanish infront of me again. Thats when Nicole another property manager steps in and starts my move in process. Nicole has me sign lease explains that Im gonna really like this unit as the one that I was suppose to move in wasnt ready and I wouldn’t have been happy and sends me to do move inspection (after ive paid all the fees) When I go into the unit I was just shocked it smelled like straight flood and there was mold and roaches everywhere. The roof is warped from the previous flood and the has so many cosmetic defects I just cried. I come back to the office to see that its closed and just go back to my apartment where my lease is ending because I refuse to move into a unit with mold and roaches with my toddler. The next day I make them aware of everything as my lease is up today and my belongings need to be moved into my new place. I call at 9 and make them aware Kenia says she will figure it out and have me a unit…. I say okay and wait for her to call back. I call and check on everything around 1 because all my belongings need to be moved out by 5.I explain to her that my stuff needs to be moved and I need an update she said shell have it figured out by 5 pm 10/15 I say okay but deep down I know this is not gonna work out. At 5:00 I come and see the new unit they found for me. As soon as I come in office I see Samuel and ask about the unit he still has no idea what im talking about and steps outside to call Kenia. He looks worried and shocked but he comes back in to relay the bad news to me. He says “We sprayed and we are scheduled to spray again in a week but there are still roaches in the unit” At that point I am pissed I dont have anywhere to move my stuff and theyve been playing games for almost 2 weeks now instead of being honest so I can figure out a better option. So I tell him Id like to void my lease as Ive already cancelled my rent payment and as soon as I say that Nicole the property manager comes out and tells him to let Kenia handle this. So he leaves and I go to Nicoles office and request a copy of my lease and she explains the lease is void because my roommate didnt sign which makes me feel a little better. When Kenia comes in she ask to show me the unit in which I go, Now I will admit this unit is alot nicer but as soon as I got in I seen 3 big roaches just hanging out in the kitchen and I turned around. This experience with this property has been a nightmare and literally turned my life upside down. If they were honest and communicated they didnt have any unit available rather then throwing me into one that was obviously not ready I couldve made proper arrangements but now my toddler and I are sleeping in my car until I can figure out...
