I purchased my first short board here and love it! I’ve been a long boarder for years but have hesitated on transitioning to something smaller. I talked to Jay in the Kahului store. He assessed my ability and needs quickly and ran me through a bunch of options. Great service and expertise. He encouraged me to try something with a little more performance and that I could duck dive. He knew the exact board that would be perfect, but it was in the Kihei store. I trusted his advice and came down here to buy it. I’m so glad I did. It’s been the perfect transition board. Easy to catch waves and get up with higher volume. But still easy enough to dive so I could get out into the short board line up on an overhead day at Ho’okipa. I wouldn’t have been comfortable out there with a higher volume transition board.
Kihei staff was also great. They sell everything you need for beach, surf and skate. All high quality stuff, not tourist convenience junk. The Kahului store rents all types of boards, long and short. Read moreI just finished a 2-hr. private lesson with Hi-Tech’s Kakoa (this isn't the best pic of me, but Kakoa's in the background smiling away - priceless!). I’ve taken a few lessons from other surf shops, and bobbed around a bit on my own, but never left feeling like I had done much of anything. Today was an absolute blast. Perfect location and the perfect instructor. Kakoa kept it simple and was very encouraging. I’ll think of him every time I go out and will remember this day forever....
