Finally went to Oku's Sushi in Kihei. It was amazing with no frills, just straight up Japanese food prepared by a Japanese Sushi Master! I literally teared up watching Chef Oku create pieces of deliciousness! It was like watching a dance with delicate mastery. He is the former Chef at Oku's that was in Kobe Steakhouse in Lahaina. Others were saying "just like I remember"...I got to speak Japanese too even if it's a little broken. It's BYOB right now and it's located in the Island Surf building off South Kihei Rd on the Auhana side. I highly recommend Oku's. Next time I may just get a bowl of Ramen or Japanese Curry. Sugoi Oishi Yo!!

Not accepting more ppl? Racist to the only brown people entering their restaurant? Guess we will never know since the server refused to look our way at all. Our 10 year old felt invisible and was so subdued after this experience “why didn’t she look at us at...
Read moreOkus Sushi Kihei opened in May 2023. I never noticed the place until I was doing some work in The Island Surf building where the restaurant is located in the commercial area.
I am so glad I stumbled upon it. We shared the shrimp dynamite, unagi roll, salmon skin roll, rainbow roll, and uni. Everything was perfect.
It’s a unique and small location, limited seating so you may have to plan around availability. As a Maui resident I don’t find many of our local restaurants worth a trip out and the cost. However Okus will be a new go to for sure and we look forward to...
