Kam I is my favorite beach park. Just a few hundred yards from the Kihei Worldmark Resort and provides plenty of beach and ocean play. It is a great place to float around in the waves just beyond the breakers and is sometimes clear enough to enjoy viewing the turtles as they make their way back and forth between Kam II and Kam III and Charley Young Beach. Boogie boards fit in well with the gentle breakers with an occasional crashing wave that rolls north to south down the beach. The water is great even in winter and sometimes even feels warmer than being out of the water. The tan sand is soft and fine and feels great between the toes and arches of your bare feet. Best place to walk and ground yourself to the earth. Many visitors and residents alike walk up and down the gentle sloping beach letting the water splash on their legs as they get their daily exercise. The Dolphin sailboat, beached nearby, patiently waits for her owner to dig it out of the sand and tow it back into the water where it used to be moored before the December 6th 2021 storm. For us it provided a wind and sun break during the day while laying in the warm sand catching a few rays. Definitely a relaxing place to visit while...
Read moreKamaole Beach Park I is my favorite south side beach on Maui. Sitting on South Kihei Rd where Alanui Ke'ali'i road intersects, Kamaole I boasts something a lot of Maui beaches lack...lots of parking! Right across the street from this beautiful beach is a large parking lot that is free to park. A crosswalk with signal provides easy access across S Kihei Rd.
Once across the street, a park like setting with picnic tables, shade trees, and volleyball court greet you before you even set foot on this beach. There isn't much if any shade on the beach but clear water, distant views of West Maui Mountains, and gorgeous sunsets make this a don't miss while visiting S Maui!
Also, don't forget to keep an eye out for the turtles crossing just yards out from the shore. I saw 3 amazing large turtles in an hour while I was out in the water. As always, enjoy the turtles (honu) from a distance unless you want a large fine or a lecture from the...
Read moreThis is a good beach to come to if you're looking for convenience. Parking along the beach is limited, but there's a large lot across the street that I've never seen full. The restrooms and showers are close by, and there's an ABC store across the street if you run out of water or forgot sunscreen or other essentials.
The actual beach is nice, it's just not as spectacular as some of the other beaches here on Maui. I tend to frequent this beach when I'm just hanging around with local friends and don't want to drive farther. Also, my favorite sushi bar (Koiso) is nearby. :) Oh, and if you plan to sun bathe, avoid this beach...
