This trip was for 32 members of our family and friends, some of whom recently submitted posts. Our family travels quite a bit as a group. We typically rent large vacation homes. We have done so over the last 10 years. We rented the entire Wailea Inn property for a considerable amount for about one week. The property is located at the perfect location and very close to two beaches. One of the beaches is private, very nice. We spent time in the pool and hot tub also. Most of the family were initially pleased with the property and chose to overlook many of the cosmetic and maintenance issues. However, one of the rooms had issues with ants and roaches from day 1, but the young ladies in the Ohana Hale unit stated they did not want to complain and ruin the vacation for the rest of the family. That changed the morning after the big storm. The power went out the night before and we notified the property manager. The family in the basement units awoke to find about 1-2 inches of water which soaked their belongings. The property owner was on site that morning to check on the property. He and the property manager got a team on site to remove the water and clean the sewage. Basically those of us upstairs were not aware that use of water and toilets was sending the wastewater to the lower level. They also got a generator on site to allow us to use the toilets and showers. They also offered to allow the family in those basement units use of the property's full size washers and dryers to clean their belongings. They did not get access but used other washer and dryers on the property. The family tried to make the best of a bad situation. The storm was out of all of our control. However, we learned from renters at nearby properties, their units were equipped with a generator to prevent any flooding/sewage back up issues. What we experienced could have been prevented. As you can imagine, by this point emotions were running high and everything the family had overlooked previously came to light. But when the young ladies told the rest of the family about the bugs (ants, roaches) and the gecko (probably attracted to the number of insects) in their room, the discussion became emotional. Living in those conditions while on vacation or not is totally disgusting and unacceptable. So at this point I had a discussion with the property manager. I sent him videos of the issues. He came immediately to spray the units and change the bedding. We moved the young ladies to a different area in the penthouse so that they could enjoy the rest of their trip. The property manager put fresh sheets on those beds as well. He also responded twice to calls about the alarm that kept beeping after the power was restored. Needless to say, the property just changed owners a week or so before our arrival. The new owner is trying to maintain the property while also still learning about the property and its challenges(mold in some of the showers, door handle missing from one of the microwaves, alarms, etc). The property sales manager did visit unannounced but she did so to bring fresh baked muffins to the family to try to make us feel more at home after the power outage and other issues. That was thoughtful and sweet. We saw potted plants to work on improving landscaping. The owner even described his plans to renovate the property. However, the muffins, future repairs and improvements do not and did not help the people like us who are renting for tens of thousands of dollars right now. I would strongly suggest the new owner to cancel reservations to make updates and improvements. At this price point, these issues are unacceptable. I specifically requested compensation for those impacted by the major issues to no avail. As I mentioned before my family travels frequently and rents large vacation homes in Costa Rica, the Caribbean, etc.. but this is the first time we have ever encountered issues like this. I would strongly suggest visiting this property after renovations but be warned, the owner will not compensate you...
Read moreThis is not a luxury experience. This was my first time in Hawaii and because of this rental, it was ruined. This was a family vacation and I was housed in the Ohana Hale house/suite. There were roaches and an ant infestation in our bathroom, living room and kitchen. Not to mention at some point there was a frog in our bed and we had to wait over 20 hours to get our rooms sprayed with insect spray and our sheets changed (we booked for a week and had only one set of towels and sheets for each room). Property management/owners did nothing to ease our stay after being notified and shown the evidence of our infestation problems. One of the owners “Randy” visited the property without letting any of us know she would be stopping by (so technically they were intruding), simply to borrow a hand mixer from one of the kitchens-we felt very unsafe and constantly exposed by not knowing who was going to stop by because we also didn’t know who (in Wailea Inn management) had a key. The pool cleaner(s) also come at an inconvenient time and the owners will not inform you upon their arrival or even give you a head up. There was a terrible flood/rain storm at some poor in our stay and it knocked out our power and flooded the yoga room & basement rooms (which was housing a husband, wife, 2 toddlers and an infant) with our plumbing so raw sewage and human waste. WE had to be the ones to reach out the owners to let them know of the issue and even then there was not an adequate amount of effort being put forth to make up for our troubles. Absolutely no refunds or efforts to make up for the issues were given or even considered for all of our major problems with our stay. This place is not at all recommended. Please find another place to spend your time in Wailea because this is far from the luxury, relaxation you’re...
