Read moreKalama Park has lovely views of the sunset over the ocean and it’s walkway was quite clear of walkers or cyclists today. My 3 year old had a great time playing on the assortment of slides and steps, as well as the balance and climbing structures at the children’s playground. I really loved seeing him have fun discovering the slides and his own sense of balance and movement. The soft and spongy carpeted surface is a nice safety feature for falling kids. I do think that a couple of balance structures are unsafe for children under 3 however and was quite nervous when my son attempted to cross or walk through. One slip and it’s a potential rope burn or worse. I made sure to be there holding on to him on the green horizontal traverse bars. I didn’t see roller blades on the hard court rink today… maybe COVID restricted IDK. Kalama park gets 5 stars for a great place for all kinds of good fun...
Read moreThe park structure itself is lovely, but it's incredibly dirty and there is a large population of homeless persons living in the picnic table shelters and the gazebo and under the trees, so it was a bit unsettling, especially with the large amounts of garbage everywhere. While we were there one woman chased a family out of the park and then walked around muttering and yelling to herself, and one man manopolized the water station so no one else could access it. The washrooms are, and I cannot stress this enough, absolutely disgusting, pretty much unusable. Shopping carts, bike parts, mattresses, pillows, blankets, chairs etc were everywhere. I would not allow my child to play or visit this park by himself if I lived here, it is...
