Consummate professional is exactly what Maui Mike is. Having lived on the island for over 40 years and surfed that entire time, Maui Mike is obviously a very seasoned and gifted surfer himself. But what makes him special is that he is able to teach amateur or never have been surfers how to surf successfully the very first time they go out in the ocean with him.

Maui spent as much time as we wanted and needed teaching my girlfriend and I the step by step process of getting up on the board successfully. By the end we were both catching waves without any assistance and feel confident we could at least go out there again on our own and have a shot of success.

Maui Mike is also genuinely caring and interested about the people he is teaching. We spent much of the time between surfs talking about living on the island, what there is to do, and he made us feel truly welcome.

Everyone is obviously looking for a fun, enjoyable surf experience. Maui Mike creates that while also being able to simplify the process of surfing to allow people to be successful. That is the art of a true teacher.

I had a great experience with these guys. They gave me a real surfboard, not a foam board like the other shops were renting. And it was nice. Having a nice surfboard makes a big difference when trying to catch waves as a beginner. The price was also great. It included booties for your feet, which are essential when you surf in Maui because there is coral reef under the water and it is very shallow everywhere. When I lost a bootie, they didn't charge me. They also gave me a dry surf lesson for free and spent time mapping out the best surf spots for beginners. Left with a great feeling, and caught some waves in Maui, the best beginner spot I have ever been to by far! These guys get 5 stars for customer service, price and quality...

You can't miss this place when driving in West Maui, it's big, bright, colorful, and an ostentatious display of stereotypical surfer decorations on the street facing side. That's just the outside.

The inside is an overwhelming amount of chaos... overwhelming and awesome. This was the best place top find a wide selection of kid shirts as well as high quality shirts for adults.

There's also a shave ice stand, but we're were on our way to dinner in our last night so we didn't partake, but next time we'll make this our first stop.
