Highlight of our vacation!!! I agree with other comments that my experience with this company, and specifically with Jedi our surfing instructor, was a life changing time which is really hard to put into words. I loved learning about the calming Hawaiian culture from the start, in our walk to the beach he was teaching and explaining the language. Like "Aloha" means more than hello. "Ha" means breath, or spirit, so it's more about breathing in the spirit of the islands and the people. He can explain that and more much better, so give yourself a treat and take a surf lesson from Jedi. Also, with his awesome instruction and encouragement, I was able to get up surfing on my first try!!! and twice more! Truly exhilarating to have the such communion and blessing from Ke Moana (?) mother ocean. My husband and our boys have been to Maui before and worked with other companies for scuba, or for renting paddle board gear, and all were very good. These guys somehow helped to reveal the Polynesian culture in such a kind way that I hadn't experienced before. Now I see why my husband raved about it after his recent trip. Thanks so much to you all. Can't wait to return!!

Why choose Maui Surf Culture? It's a Hawaiian- and family-owned small business that proudly honors Aloha, Kuleana and Ohana. I had the joy and privilege of learning from energetic, passionate and funny-as-hell owner Lolo. He and his staff are so welcoming, fun-loving and supportive. I drove there from Kihei, forgot my bathing suit bottoms and they literally got me covered! Lolo's a thorough teacher who taught me about Lahaina, the history of surfing there, and the skills I needed to feel comfortable and confident in getting on and up on the board. Kamehameha Iki Park and the breakwall is a beautiful spot and well-suited for beginners. Lolo made sure I had fun and felt safe and caught plenty of waves. When I accidentally cut my hand wiping out, he made sure I was OK and his super-kind and patient wife helped me take care of it. Kimo's photography is pro. And for both the lesson and photos, the price was right. The shop is dope too, with lots of local, quality merch and rentals. 11 out of 10 experience. Mahalo! Will definitely be back.

What an amazing experience! Jedi was our guide and gave us such a life changing experience getting us up on the waves and sharing the culture and history of surfing and the islands! It was informational for both getting up surfing as well as getting to know more about the amazing gifts the world has provided for us in the islands of Hawaii. We created lifelong memories and lifelong skills of being able to surf it was absolutely amazing. I recommend this place to everyone who asks because it was just that amazing ! Such a good price for the abundance of knowledge, compassion and aloha we received. We are so glad we choose maui surf culture !

I booked this lesson for my first-time spring break trip to Maui. Cannot say enough great things! My expectations were I’d be a group lesson and catch (hopefully) at least one wave— I was mostly after exposure to the sport since I had no experience. However, to my surprise I happened to be the only one in my lesson with coach Todd. Todd was patient, extremely knowledgeable, and encouraging. Even though the waves were a little bigger than we expected, he helped tow me out to a spot with optimal beginning waves. I always felt safe and by the end I lost count of how many waves he helped me catch!! (Looking up is the key 🔑) Not only did I walk away with the experience I was after, but incredible memories and an abundance of photos captured by one of their photographers for only $30 more. Cannot recommend them enough! I did have someone drop/pick me up, but if you’re driving yourself please show up early to try to...
