While I thoroughly enjoyed this Lahaina cruise adventure trip, my husband on the other hand did not only because he ingested lots of salt water and ended up puking after the first snorkel trip of the adventure and couldn’t do the second one because of it . In my opinion though it was a lovely little breakfast they gave us that had cut up fruit and muffins and drinks and on the way over to Lanai we saw whales close to the boat right from the get go and that was awesome to see. The first stop we made was at Lanai and we snorkeled an area that was a marine conservation area and it was extremely beautiful! The topography of the coral was amazing ! There was many beautiful fish. After snorkeling, (equipment was provided by their company) we headed off looking for spinner dolphins or bottlenose and came across a fleet of 50 or so dolphins and got to see them for a long time while heading off to our second location of to snorkel. The Dolphins were awesome to see jumping out of the water and they were right next to the boat and so close you could touch them! The next spot they took us was closer to Maui and there was a an old pipe that created lots of amazing spots for turtles to live and hide under and so there were many green sea turtles were there to swim with. The boat we were on also had a slide that you could slide and jump into the ocean and that was fun for many! They had a barbecue with chicken and burgers and fruit as well as a cocktail drink or piña colada that was delicious. I enjoyed the trip and the female captain was very knowledgeable about everything. If you do choose to go, know that they have sunscreen provided so that it’s reef friendly and you don’t need to apply your own before you go. The cons of the trip: I would say that if you want to go on this trip bring your own snorkel because they do not have great snorkels which caused my husband to drink a lot of salt water and spew off the boat and couldn’t do anything else . There are snorkels that have a cap on the top to prevent water from constantly going in them when snorkeling and those are the best to get. The mask and flippers they provided we’re just fine though . It seems like they could’ve ended a little earlier than 1:30 and were driving the boat around wasting time to fill the time towards the end when everyone was just ready to get off . However Maui weather was quite nice for us and it wasn’t...
Read moreOverall was very good, the staff on board the vessel was very friendly and helpful, and the drinks were good. Was also a great value at a little over $30 each for the cocktail cruise, with unlimited snacks and nonalcoholic beverages included, as well as two free alcoholic drinks (After that, it was 3-5 bucks each, which is still much cheaper than most bars). The only things I could complain about would be the fact that when we checked in, we were told to meet under a tree a short distance from the wharf at 4:45. At 5pm I decided we should walk closer to the check in area, since nobody had come over to collect us. We stood there for 2 or 3 minutes before someone shouted the last boarding call for the boat, and if we had still been waiting under the tree WHERE WE WERE TOLD TO MEET we would not have heard him and would have missed the boat. Second thing was they did not have any plates or anything for the snacks, only napkins, and it was a little messy for the veggie tray that had, since there was nothing to put the dip into. The third thing is there is no address given for where to check in, only a vague description of where to meet at the wharf, and if you are not familiar with Lahaina (as most tourists are!) you might have trouble finding it. Also, the address that is listed on Google is a block of warehouses, with no sign of the cruise company! I ended up turning right after the Cannery Mall shopping center, going down to Front Street, turning left and then the wharf is on the right more or less behind the huge banyan tree, and there is a sign for the cruise line. Other than that, it was a good experience and I would definitely...
Read moreI'm sure everyone has off days where nothing goes right, and everything becomes worse. My trip this past Wednesday must have been one such day for the crew.
Wind was too strong for a trip to Lanai, so they choose a closer mooring for snorkeling. Along the way we passed by a harbor hosting a single slowly bobbing turtle. Sea life, check. Making sure people can actually hear you over the intercom, uncheck.
After the 45 min cruise to the snorkeling location, we spent a full hour searching for a mooring, then dropping anchor. Before anyone dove in we were stopped again by high winds. 1.5 hours later... Over 3 hours into a 6 hour tour we are finally able to get a mooring. In that time a sleek black boat that sailed out of 'thunder in paradise' rolled up and moored in 5 minutes. No joke, probably less. They approached, someone dove into the water, and they were attached in seconds.
An hour and a half later we left, and I did enjoy my time in the water. It was clear it was beautiful, it was Hawaii. Snorkeling equipment was old. There were no purge valves, which doesn't sound like a problem until you're struggling to breathe around a pocket of salt water which happens when it's too windy to go to your original destination.
We were able to see a whale blowing on the way home, and the Capitan must have been ecstatic at that as he overshot the return harbor. We ended up returning close to an hour late.
Lastly, there was no barbecue. They grilled burgers. There is a difference. Giving the option to slather on barbecue sauce after the fact does not make...
