Waves Hawaii Surf School — Local services in Maui

My kids (ages 9 and 11) had a fantastic time learning to surf. We've been to Hawaii 10 times now, but this is the first time for surfing. We were a little hesitant at first due to safety concerns, but we had heard good things from our friends (who were also on this trip) and decided to sign our kids up for the semi-private lessons. We were so glad that we did. Fernando, the kids' instructor, put us at ease and took extra care to ensure that our youngest one was safe. With his encouragement and expert instruction, our kids were up on their boards and catching waves in not time at all! They loved it so much that we came back for more a couple days later and I even joined them. Thanks again Waves Hawaii. You provided a very professional service and we have memories that will last a lifetime. BTW, Matias took some excellent pictures...much better than any that I could have taken from the shore. I would highly recommend.

As an aside, if we were to do it again, we would sign up for the 3 day package and do it early...

Great experience, learning to surf at Waves Hawaii Surf School! I signed up to help give my daughters the courage to do so. I think we caught 20 waves each. We signed up for the semi private lesson, which allowed the three of us to share one instructor. The instructor would launch us off, and we rode the wave. As we paddled back out, the next surfer was up and surfing by. The instructor would provide great feed back, elevating our performance. The organization was very positive, they kept a great eye out. They provided rash guards, pants, shoes, boards, everything to have a great experience. All you need to do is show up, they'll take care of the rest. We signed up for semi-private, after my fifth wave I wish I had signed up for surf safari. The safari offers classes in deeper water which equates to longer rides and deeper water when falling off the board. Semi private is great for the kids. Both of my kids are hooked and want their own boards now....

We signed our son (8) up for a private surf lesson with waves after reading different reviews and checking their website. We felt that they'd be the best match for a young kid and we were beyond impressed. We got there and they set him up with shoes, rash guard and a wetsuit. The wetsuit was a huge help in keeping him warm longer. Needing to bring nothing knowing they can fit you... Absolutely perfect when traveling! Eddie was his teacher and he was amazing! He's so gentle, kind, encouraging and really let our son be himself. He got up on the first try and rode a lot of waves! The surf spot is perfect for learning, especially for a child. We also were surprised that there was a photographer! We got absolutely incredible pictures from Sam! We can't wait to come back and do it again next time! Thank you...
