Read moreSunday Night Delight at South Shore Tiki Lounge After seeing South Shore Tiki Lounge absolutely buzzing the night before in Kalama Village, my wife and I decided to give it a try. We half-expected the same lively scene on a Sunday night, but it was surprisingly mellow – perfect for a relaxed evening. We were immediately welcomed with a warm smile and the invitation to "sit anywhere," so we naturally gravitated towards the patio where live music filled the air. First, drinks! I opted for a Beach Bum Rum, a tropical concoction of Malibu Melon, Midori, mango, and lemonade that instantly put me in vacation mode. My wife, ever the fan of local flavors, loved her Maui Brewing Company Dragon Fruit seltzer. Then came the appetizer: crispy fried calamari that arrived with an unexpected, yet delightful, surprise – fried pickles! The tempura breading was incredibly light and crispy, making every bite of calamari and pickle perfectly crunchy and incredibly flavorful. Given South Shore's reputation for pizza, we couldn't resist. Our waitress was fantastic, letting us mix and match a small pizza half-and-half. One half was the hearty South Shore Combo (red sauce, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, Hawaiian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, red onions, and black olives). The other half was the intriguing Sweet Kalua (BBQ sauce, kalua pork, pineapple, and green onions), offering a satisfying play between sweet and tart. The thin, crispy crust was spot on, and they did a stellar job of splitting the flavors right down the middle. My only small note is that the sweet oil from the Kalua side did migrate a bit, affecting the tips of my savory half. If you're as particular about your pizza flavors as I am, you might consider ordering separate small pizzas to avoid any flavor mingling. Despite that minor detail, our experience was truly enjoyable. We had a great time and would certainly return to South Shore Tiki Lounge on...
Read moreWe arrived with a party of 7, and the waitress gestured for us to wait in a spot where there was two other people waiting also. She told me ten minutes or so. Maybe 15 minutes went by and the other two people got a table and we kept waiting until the same waitress came to me and said
"You know you guys can sit inside", as if she expected us to know to wander in, out of line of sight of the tables to see they were free. I responded "We were waiting for direction from you." and she lead us inside.
Another waitress greeted us, she was very kind and bubbly and gave us menus and said she will start us with water, we got our water and then didn't see her for another 20 minutes. Honestly at this point we should have left. I saw the couple who were in front of us in the line and they had already got their food. Very unimpressed with that.
She returned and we ordered drinks. And then we didn't get said drinks for another 15 minutes. Again, we should have left but another party member said "We ordered the drinks we have to pay".
When the drinks arrived they tasted watered down.
When our food finally arrived there was several problems; One of the party members ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich, and there was perhaps a drop of pesto on it. She had to ask for more. The ceasar salad croutons tasted stale and hurt my teeth, as if they had been stored in the open the whole time. The fries tasted as if from the grocery store.
Overall, I would not recommend this place if you expect service. If you're going to go sit at the bar and have a beer.
I won't be returning.
Edit: we were there on February 12th. The first waitress was a 5'4 strawberry blonde and the second was 5'8 (I think, I was sitting...
