Our daughter started Kindergarten with OHVA eight years ago. We are very proud to have chosen the right school community for this educational journey and believe that each year only gets better as we all learn together and make progress as new and innovative ways of learning come up.
Before deciding to be with the Stride K12/OHVA partnership, we researched and compared other school communities. We read both positive and negative reviews and testimonies of young people who have moved on after graduating. It helped us understand why families differed with their opinions and why it worked/failed.
Families must have the choice and the right to decide How, Where, and Who they would like to partner with when it comes to their children's education. School choice!
Stride K12/OHVA school curriculum, the flexibility of being online, and us being able to be a part of our child's school helped us the most in our decision to go with them. We found that they provide well-balanced education for their students. The online and offline lessons ensure that students have a steady pace in their learning.
The Teachers Guide Book details everything for the Learning Coach to follow and succeed in guiding their child's learning at home. Even parents who have no teaching experience will find it easy to follow the step-by-step guide for each school subject.
In our eight years with OHVA, the staff and teachers are just a phone call or email away. They are very accommodating and happy to assist with whatever questions and help you need. Talking with them is easy and does not make you feel like you have inconvenienced them. We find it very easy to navigate both Stride K12/OHVA websites to find an answer to some questions. Stride K12 Tech support is always patient to help whenever computer glitches happen or a problem with a lost school package.
My daughter loves each teacher she connects with every day in her classes and online clubs. She enjoys interacting with her online friends and is always enthusiastic about relaying what happened during her Class Connect. We are satisfied seeing our daughter flourish at her own pace each year. Because we have control of our time, we can let her passion for art develop and allow her to dabble in any other interests that she has.
OHVA schedules face-to-face excursions all year long. We have the freedom to choose which educational or social field trips we prefer to attend. Although it is a requirement to attend at least four, we usually go more to take this opportunity to meet up with her friends and teachers or visit places we never thought of going to.
Learning Coaches are also provided with classes, info, and tips in the Learning Coach University and eQUIP. We learn at our own pace too.
We could see ourselves as parents and our daughter finishing this journey through High School years with Stride K12/OHVA.

Read moreI like all my teachers here at ohva, but there are a few that have truly impacted me as well as my education. With that being said, my most sincere thanks to Mrs. McClellan for her neverending supply of help with any issue I have, whether it's needing help with a subject, or just to talk...she works extremely hard for all her students, and she is probably the reason I didn't drop out when things got tough! For that, I am thankful! My past english teacher, Mrs. Grolnic, gave great feedback so I knew where I could improve my work, and was extremely encouraging...made me step up my game in writing short stories (something I really enjoy) Don't know if I would have went in that direction without her! I'd like to thank Mrs. Rounds, not just a wonderful teacher, but the reason my checkbook is always balanced lol. Mr. McCorkle gave me a true love of history, and managed to make it fun as well! Mrs. Barry treated each student as if they were her only concern, she made sure we got everything we needed to know for the course, and went beyond that with great guest speakers, I can see that she loves teaching, and it made me want to learn! Mrs. Remick not only taught the lessons but taught by example, her love for saving the environment showed me that even one person can make a difference...and she is right! Mrs. Palmer actually recorded herself doing science experiments, so we could see that science is not a huge undertaking, all it takes is a question, and a desire for an answer. Mr. Bacon is not only willing to go the extra mile with help, but makes learning fun...I feel that is an admirable trait for a teacher! What can I say about Mr. Gluckin?...extremely smart, involved, encouraging, helpful, interesting, fun, caring....the list goes on and on, Thanks! I think it's necessary to say that the student mentors are a huge factor in my success as a student, sometimes working with peers makes a huge impact on a young adult. The mentors wouldn't be who they are without the direction and kindness of Mrs. Gilles, and it shows! She's a wonderful person! Last, but certainly not least, are Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Twigg...(both similar teachers.) They work hard making sure the students understand math, and are willing to work with a student until they know the material. Both are understanding and extremely patient. You can feel how much they care about the student's success! They are the closest thing to having a mom in the classroom with you. As I said, all of the teacvhers are great teachers....But some...
Read moreAfter the pandemic hit in 2021- 2022 school year our two children were transitioned into virtual learning through OVA. That was a big transition for a working class family in the process of recovering from the finacial and academic affects of the pandemic. It has been a working progress getting our ten year old third grader to stay engaged and focused. Apparently your students teacher can mark your student absent based off there judgment of your students "level of participation" or what OVA calls it "actively learning "....wether your student logged in for "class connect" or not that day unbeknownst to the learning coach. After speaking with Ms Pamela Wysocki (OVA teacher )and Ms Veronica Smith (advisor) about how this extremely grey area of a policy works and a plan moving forward to re- engage my student and actually putting the plan into action...I abruptly recieve a generated email stating due to leak of "active learning" my student will be dismissed from school effective immediately for truancy and her OVA account will deactivated in 48 hours. ..I was lost for words! I was extremely shocked that OVA would basically expell my third grade student for TRAUNCY weeks before the end of the school year in the middle of final assessments with no prior disciplinary action or probation...and with no real guidance on how to to finish out this year successfully because she is struggling to stay engaged. What upset me the most was when I tried to reach out to Ms Pamela Wysocki about my concerns, she accidentally sent a message intended for her administration to me stating " she didn't plan on responding to my email but wanted to warn them of my email just incase "I decide to go up higher". I have reached out to several of OVA advisors after this situation and NO ONE has responded ! Its like my students was just a statistic and rating on paper for academic funding...once she starting looking less than impressive on paper shes dismissed and not there problem anymore! I wish during our conferences to discuss improving my students level of intrest....the attendance policy and the possibility of "trauncy" for a respectful ten year old with a short attention span would have been more transparent. I understanding policies are put in place for structure but we are talking about young childrens who need patience and support...not a score on paper. OVA could have...
