I was a student at RCC about 10 years ago and had a genuinely great experience at that time. The application process, course selection, and support services were all smooth and helpful, which is why I recently decided to return and take a few courses for personal development. Unfortunately, this time around, the experience has been frustrating and incredibly time-consuming.
The initial online application process was simple, and I received a confirmation email with my student number and instructions to expect another email with login details. That second email never came. Because of my work schedule, I called an advisor instead of scheduling an appointment. They were helpful and told me I was good to go for fall registration. However, I still couldn’t access my account.
The advisor tried to help me get logged in, but the information provided didn’t work. I was then given an email address for the IT team, but my message immediately bounced back because it only accepts internal emails. I then filled out a DocuSign form in case my account was locked and was told it wasn’t. After more searching on RCC’s website, I finally found a number for the IS department. The person I spoke to simply resent me the same form I had already submitted and marked it as a duplicate—no troubleshooting, no assistance.
It wasn’t until I called back and spoke to someone else that I received real help. This person walked me through the steps and got me to a point where an administrator could reset my password. Finally, I was able to log in—but even then, I found I was still blocked from registering for courses. This required yet another call to the advisor line to resolve.
All in all, I spent an unreasonable amount of time just trying to access my student account and register for classes. I expected the process to be easier and more supportive, especially as a returning student. The lack of coordination, ineffective communication, and repeated hand-offs between departments made this experience incredibly discouraging.
As much as I was looking forward to taking classes again, I’ve decided to go with another college that offers a more streamlined system and staff that are more proactive in resolving issues. RCC has potential, but the current structure and support seriously need improvement.
Additionally, RCC’s website would benefit greatly from a clear, easy-to-find contact directory. When students need help, it should be simple to know who to reach out to for specific issues like login access, course registration, or technical support. A well-organized directory could save everyone—students and staff—a lot of time and...
Read moreSo I have to say if I gave 5 stars to the people and procedures at RCC based on "They mean well" then this would be a happy and fulfilled review. Sadly this is not the case. Simply put a bad and unsatisfied as well a time and money spent disaster. And I didn't even mention the real loss and pain, my joy, my zen , beet pong. You know the college years. To much to say about the start of paperwork to my dreams crushed. The paperwork is easy. Start early on registering not because the funds could be less the longer you wait. It's the school that is the headache. Rules you may not know about going to college. You don't get to choose the classes you take. There are preisquites to alot of classes, you might not like them but you will have no choice. If you decide to go to school online, which after my experience I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND. The emails, the passwords, omg the redundancies are incredible and not necessary. You would think they were protecting government data. I don't think anyone would try to hack into a community College to check on Tammy's English paper. Couple of more college rules. You do the work to obtain the grants etc. To attend but the college has all the power to do and charge whatever they want with YOUR MONEY. The college wil apply your money to classes etc. And they will decide how much and when to give you the balance. Also the biggest complaint at RCC is I was signed in to take a class. I could not communicate with the teacher because of technical issues plus it was algebra. I don't need it, I'm not going to use it. And I didn't sign up for it the college did. So the term just started so I let it go. Apparently wrong decision. I did not do one thing at this class but was charged $1500 and my registration for this term was put on hold. I told them to apply my money the grants over $7000 to paesy it so I could register. Meeting after meeting at multiple campuses, it's still a nightmare going on a week now. None of the financial aid people are on the same page. Getting different answers to questions. Important questions dealing with thousands of dollars which is mine and my responsibility. My advice. No College unless you plan on becoming a Doctor or a Scientis. Just look all the staff at RCC went to college and they are no better off then working at your local Walmart....
Read moreWhile going to school it was okay, I was placed on academic suspension (completely my fault) for spring term. Naturally since I'm no longer a student I logged out of my email account and haven't looked at it since Feb. I got a notice in my mail the other day that I owed over $600 and it was due in 30 days. I called to see about setting up a payment plan and spoke to Erin who was not helpful and spoke in a condescending tone telling me I couldn't set up a payment plan and that everything was due in the 30 days or I would be sent to collections. I hadn't received any notice about the balance before the letter (Erin claimed I was sent 2 emails to the school email) so why on earth would you have my phone number, address and personal email let alone give me a refund for tuition if I owe money. Completely unprofessional, they could be making more money off me by setting up a payment plan but instead they would rather cause emotion distress and get less than the amount i owe from the collections agency. This is a community college, there is no need to act like this when literally everywhere else will work with you. In my opinion, don't go unless you make a lot of money and/or have a savings account that will cover tuition if FASFA fails to cover. Otherwise you risk over 100 point drop or more in your credit score by being sent to...
