Empire Beauty School — Local services in Memphis

This is the 3rd cosmetology school i have visited over the past several months and compared the the last one, this place was a joke. First off, my appointment was at 12:30p for a spa mani pedi. I walk to a waiting area full of irritated people because they all had been waiting for a while. From what was being told, the student were on lunch. Explain to me why the facility would book my appt. during LUNCH break?? A little after 1p i go back to the desk because officially I haven't been told ANYTHING, only chatter of other patrons about lunch break. The same young lady who was there when I arrived who had me sign in and where I marked 'appointment " was still at the desk. She asked me if she checked me in to which she hadn't. I inquired as to why I wasn't checked in when I arrived and was told some bs about students being available or something. She then mentioned that she wasn't sure if the student who was assigned to my services was in and asked if I minded someone else. I didn't make a special request when I made my appointment. This was in fact my first time (and probably last) visiting this establishment. She assured me that someone would be with me. I went back and continued to hear the conversation of other irritated patrons. It was 1:08pm. Several ladies stated that they has been there since 11a. One lady also there for nails services said her appointment was at 1pm. She went and checked to see if she has been "checked in" and came back reporting that she hasn't either and given the same "soon" info. Let me back up and say there were students and staff all around. The staff's office was right off thr waiting area. Not once did any of them acknowledge the full lobby of seemingly irritated people. They walked back and forth laughing and joking with each other. The student all appeared with attitudes and also ignoring the crowd. About 1:40p i went back to the desk. A different lady was there. Checked the computer as the previous had done and finally printed out some sort of tickets and handed it to another student asking her to take it to that student. I was again told that someone would be with me soon. There were still people who had been there since 11a still waiting also. I had decided by 2p I was leaving. Around 1:52p a young lady comes asking the one girl, who would later be identified as Christine, about supplies. Christine had been working the entire time.i was there and was currently giving nail services to someone. The other young lady went on to tell Christine she had a nail client but didn't want to do it at all. I guessed well that this is the young lady who was handed MY ticket. She talked to Christina who eventually volunteered to take "the client (me). This ENTIRE conversation took place right in the waiting area with all the patrons waiting for service. We all heard this conversation and that young lady didn't seem to care that it was probably one of us....and it was... Christine called my name and immediately apologized for the long wait. She took me to a station to do my pedi and apologized as well because they were out of scrub. Wallah the 1st sight of customer service the entire time. Christine did my pedicure and was very engaging. She is still in the student stage so my pedicure on that scale was decent. I didn't mention that she presented me with the colors, and I have more in my personal collection. Christine was multitasking, still tending to the client she was working on before me but at each time she left the room, she explained and promised to be right back, which she did. Her customer service really softened this horrible experience. I didn't get the manicure.Hell, it was 4 ish when my pedi was done. I kindly checked out, tipped Christina, and got the hell out of there. They have their core values plastered on the wall, but my experienceis that this place is a joke. No teacher ever checked on/looked over the stufents work. Compared to the environment and students i would say choose another school to learn at or be serviced at. Thank...

I went to this school, not worth it you basically learn everything on your own ALL most of the instructors do is be in their own world talking about things that has NOTHING to do with what your supposed to be working/learning... I went home one day after school hurting ended up in the hospital & ended up having to have emergency surgery stayed in there for a couple day I let my instructor know. Then when I was discharged I was told to stay home for a week (got a doctor's note btw) & do a follow up with my doctor so I went to doctor she said I can return to school in a week.... (got a note) contacted my instructor & told her if she wanted me to fax her the doctor's excuse & at first she said yes then I kept asking her has she received it yet she said the fax machine was down to wait until the next day so i did & then i asked her did she receive it yet & she said it was still down & I said okay I will wait till later I sent it then I kept calling her texting to see if she has received my fax yet no response (I called/texted my instructor & I called the school) NO RESPONSE !!! I did that for about 2 or 3 days then it came time for me to come back to school so I try my instructor again the day before school I ask her did she ever receive my doctor excuse or does she just want me to bring it in? Her response is "you've been terminated for 4 days now" !!! NO ONE answered my calls/texts within those days at ALLL! She nor no one else bothered to call/text back & respond to me let alone let me know i've been terminated. I owe money now that I shouldn't even be owing because of my absent which was ALL excuse btw smh!!! Don`t waste your time...

I was there Thursday and i must say the students there are very rude and disrespectful especially towards the instructor. The young lady who did my hair was polite and ok. The other young ladies were very disrespectful. They were cursing very loudly and on their phones sitting down. The instructor asked a young lady with a long ponytail and another young lady next to her with a short afro to do a holiday look because they were just sitting there ok their phones. They started questioning her asking her why. She tells them why and as soon as she walks off they started talking bad about her and saying they wasn’t going to do nothing and started cursing even more and got back on their phones. To me this was very unprofessional as a student to be doing all that cursing and talking bad about your instructor in front of clients of the school and fellow classmates. As i was waiting on the young lady to finish my hair the two young ladies along with another young lady with red hair was being very rude and disrespectful. This was not a professional establishment at all. I wish i could have caught the instructor on my way out but she wasn’t available. But whomever gets this please inform students to be respectful in front of clients especially...
