My daughters have been attending Matthews Martial Arts for almost 4 years. It started out with my oldest daughter that was 3-4 years old when we moved to Midland. She met Sigung Jason during a program that he does at one of the local daycares in Midland. My oldest daughter (soon to be 8) immediately fell in love with karate and Sigung. I thought I would let her try it out. Almost 4 years later and she is a purple belt working toward her black belt. She completed the entire little dragon program at Matthews under Jason Matthews guidance and instruction. I also have a younger daughter who is about to be 5… she is a little dragon green belt. She started the little dragon program when she was 2 years old. We started out at the Dojo to simply “try it out,” and now we spend 3 nights a week there. We have made some of our greatest memories and friendships through Matthews Martial Arts since moving to Midland. We have put in years at the dojo and have many more years to go. I read a pretty negative review about how a family was treated and to be honest, that is not at all how the Karate School conducts business. Jason Matthews is one of the most honest, stand up, Christian men and I am so thankful for his positive influence on both of my daughters lives. He helps guide them and make them better little humans with respect, discipline, and confidence. He also makes sure that every instructor that walks through the doors is setting the same example. Jason Matthews is the type of man that would accompany my daughters to a father/daughter dance if they needed him to. He is the type of person that would pray over my daughters and for my family. He would hands down be a person that would help me if I had a flat tire and couldn’t get hold of anyone else. He is a great man and it’s a shame that people can blast someone on here just because they are in their feelings! I would like to touch on the comment from “bad review Nick” about his child being allowed to attend all the classes they want. I don’t know where they came up with that, but I feel like almost every parent within that school knows that your child is allowed 2 class days during the week! One day is instruction and skills and another day is focused on sparring. You are always welcome to set up a private lesson with one of the instructors, and you might be asked to participate in other classes outside of the normal schedule and those are an additional monetary obligation from parents. The standard is 2 classes per week. Also another rebuttal to “bad review Nick.” Jason Mathews is not trying to steel or cheat your family out of money. I’m pretty sure that per our contract when you initially sign up you are required to give a 30 days notice. If you would have responded to Jason when he reached out to you I’m sure him and his family would have been more than happy to refund you the monthly charge had it been such a drain on your family during that time. Hands down MATTHEWS MARTIAL ARTS not just for karate, but for building relationships, finding your confidence, and being able to defend yourself. Behind every one bad review I’m sure I can give you a hundred positive! Give it a shot … you will...
Read moreMy family and I can't say enough about Matthews Martial Arts. My boys started in August- one was 7 and one was a little over 2 1/2. We were welcomed and instantly became family. Both boys have grown tremendously since August. My oldest started being scared of everything. I mean everything- he cried just because we made him walk in to see what it was about. He is now a yellow belt and has even competed in sparring. His confidence, behavior and focus has made huge improvements. He tries at this more than he does anything else. My little one has grown tremendously as well. Sigung Jason has helped us reinforce to him that he can not get his way by throwing fits, that he is not in charge. It was a hard lesson at first, but now he listens and follows instructions without having to be told twice. He now lives and breathes karate. He does his regular class, his sparring class and Sigung lets him "help" in the big kids sparring class. He wants to be in every single class that Sigung has. My husband has also joined and will go through the ranks with the boys. He tested for his yellow belt last week. We have met the greatest people here and have just started our journey. Again, I couldn't be more grateful we are a part of Matthews...
Read moreI reviewed Matthew's Martial Art's in 2013, and I'd like to elaborate in 2017. My daughter was a third grader in a new city and already feeling the pressures of being bullied. Receive the flyer for Matthew's martial arts and enrolled her. One year later she was testing for her orange belt and had more confidence and I had ever imagined at such a young age. A year later my son wanted to do martial arts and even though he suffers from anxiety, the coaches and instructors always made him feel confident and loved. The discipline they received was very valuable, and to stand up for themselves against bullies. And there's more to this story... while I watched my children thrive honestly wanted to be a part of that. The lady Warriors support for the women in the dojo is unlike anything I've ever seen. I decided it was mommy's turn to sign up and less than a year later, in 2017, I'm testing for my purple belt. It's not only the belts that I'm proud of for me and my children it's the journey along the way it's Indescribable and brings something out of you that you'll never know unless you try, and the family atmosphere and support you receive makes it unlike...
