I've been meaning to write this for a very long time, sad I didn't get to it sooner.
Ūmei has a big spot in my heart for many reasons.
In a world where instant gratification is the norm, where the world demands next day shipping and single-use items that never decompose in a landfill, Ūmei is a breath of fresh air.
Not only do they have items that look good in anyone's home, but they are also functional and indispensable. I've gotten a few things that are in daily use in my own and also at my mother's house.
If you want to buy someone you love some very unique gifts, it is a wonderful place to start.
Susan, the owner, has such a gift for putting things together so beautifully. Not only is she creatively gifted she is a warm and welcoming person no matter who walks through her doors. You can really tell she loves what she does.
Loveliness infuses everything she touches, and she takes time with each customer while beautifully wrapping your purchases with earth friendly packaging. She travels to source items from wonderful Japanese craftspeople that keep their traditions alive.
I can't say enough good things! It is a gem of a shop that I'm happy to return to, again...

Though it’s a bit out of the way for my I’m glad to be able to have a place I can purchase my TRAVELERS products in person that doesn’t require me to travel to san francisco or chicago!
