Plato's Closet Monterey — Local services in Monterey

Wondering why I’m seeing so many things from Shein , fashion nova and forever 21 on the racks. Those brands are cheap, throw away fast fashion and they’re horrible quality when purchased brand new, nevermind used. It would be nice if the buyers refused to accept those clothing items in favor of the numerous other quality brands out there.

Update to Owner response: Saying the store needs to carry brands like Shein, Fashion Nova, and forever 21 in order to offer a price point that everyone can afford? Doesn’t make much sense…..People who bring their clothes in to sell to Platos aren’t being paid much, (about 1/3) if anything…. So for items that cost between 5 and 7 dollars when they were brand new….that’s like, pocket change…and then they get put on a rack in Plato’s and are going to have to be priced what they cost originally….even though they are used…which essentially means the consumer is just wasting their money….

Buying preowned clothing that’s in great condition and from brands like Free People, for example, would be a better choice because as a consumer, I know it’s likely that brand is going to be worth buying secondhand since it will fit better, be made of materials that last longer, and therefore, allow the consumer to actually get a good deal. I gotta say that this place is not worth the drive and gas money. I have been here quite a few times and the same lady is always working. I brought in a bag of clothes which you leave with them at the front and they go through then call your name when done. less then 2 min later they call my name and tell me they would not be taking anything. when i get it back to my car, i open the bag to find the top couple items were unfolded, obiously looked at, but the clothes half way through and to the bottom were not even touched! i had a brand new pair of lucky brand jeans at the bottom of the bag that were bought full price at lucky brand jeans 2 months prior. If they had seen thoes i am sure they would have swooped on them. but they are lazy and do not even look at the stuff you bring in. It was a waste of time and gas and the service was horrible. I wouldnt say that from one experience but ALL my trips there have been exactly the same. So save your time and gas and go...

this plato’s has always been a hit or miss for me, i always bring in at least 2 bags and they either take everything or give me back everything. i would say i always bring in name brand items that are in great condition and today after a 1.5 hour wait I got $40. that included 2 pairs of abercrombie pants, aritzia, h and m, american eagle and a few other items. considering how much they overprice items in the store and have clothes that aren’t in style or in good shape, it’s difficult to be happy with what i received. i would always bring my clothes here but this is the last time i come :( consider selling on depop if u have great name brand items that’ll...
