They are sure to greet you as you walk in the door. The staff are very friendly. The brand of ice cream is a premium brand, Ashby's Sterling, easily the best in town. It would be better if the dipping cabinets kept the ice cream at the correct temperature of 5 degrees. While open dipping cabinets display the ice cream well, they also allow air to get to the ice cream causing ice crystals to form. The employees could use additional training on how to pack a cone. When cashing out, I was informed that my credit card use would cost me 75 cents. That is a 15% up charge, based on my order. Much higher than what they are charged by Clover. I went to Opies Candy Store on a couple of our family vacations to moutains and to the Mt Airy, Nc area. I would definitely recommend this cute small but unique little candy store, it had the ole old time candy from my childhood, I loved looking around at all the sweet treats, I purchased some candy, which I'm going to say, I enjoyed very much. This is by far the coolest candy store I’ve ever taken my kids to. They have a fantastic assortment of candy and the ice cream was incredible. The store was well stocked, clean and had multiple places for us to sit and enjoy ice cream while watching an episode of Andy Griffith!
