I needed a new vacuum, and felt as though it was time to invest in my first 'adult vacuum'. You know, the kind that would last for many years, have some good options, and be much better quality. I immediately turned to Amazon, did a bunch of research on consumer reports, and figured out a few different ones I was interested in.
As I went back to Amazon to order one, I started reading through the reviews for that model. One of them stood out to me. The reviewer pointed out that vacuums at this level aren't really any cheaper online than in stores, and in buying local, you've got a direct connection and relationship to service and maintenance for the long term. Well, yeah. That made sense.
I was actually pretty embarrassed as I do try my best to support local business whenever possible, and don't mind paying a bit of a premium to do so. I called the Mount Vernon Sew & Vac to make sure they were open, and then headed over to check things out.
From the first moment I stepped in the store, it was like a bit of time travel. The store itself was clean and modern, but the warmth of welcome and eagerness to provide service and information was something I'd forgotten about. I spent some time talking with the salesperson, and greatly appreciated she called others over when she wasn't particularly certain about a specific answer. She cared more about making sure I had the information I needed, than putting on airs with some sort of bravado.
I was limited on time so had to run, and asked them to put together the best package and price they could for me, and that I'd think through, and I'd hopefully be back later in the day to pick it up, as I really needed a new vac that night. We connected a couple of hours later over the phone, and they outlined what they'd put together. It was fair and reasonable, and I picked it up.
The product itself is about ten times better than I ever knew a vac could even be, and it has actually given me the opportunity to enjoy the chore. I appreciate the time and energy invested in me that day, and will be a loyal customer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife wanted to buy a certain sewing machine that was normally $3500 but was on sale for $2000. This store said they didnāt have one on hand but would have one shipped from the warehouse. They even called the warehouse while we were there to confirm one was available. They said it would only take a couple of days and someone would call her when it arrived.
No one ever called.
When my wife called to ask why and the lady she spoke with was rather snippy. She again promised to have one shipped up and call when it arrived.
No one ever called, again.
If the machine was unavailable we should have been informed of that.
My wife wanted to buy from this store so she could take advantage of the training classes and the customer service. Well, the customer service seems to be nonexistent and weāre beginning to question the value of the classes.
Time to find a different store.
UPDATE: My wife finally got through to a manager, Stephanie, and she was very nice. Michelle and Sarah were also very helpful. After much discussion and my wife getting to try the machine we brought it. Everyone came through to turn an experience that was off to a bad start to a good ending. Iāve changed my rating from 1 star to 4 stars.
I still think they could use some improvement in their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could give 10 stars I would. Your employee, Tamra Glover was wonderful when I brought my old New Home sewing machine and my 1980ā model 840 Bernina in for servicing. Tamra took the time to ask basic questions about how I used and maintained the machines. Like, ādid I clean out the bobbin housing?ā āWhen was the last time I replaced the needles? She noticed my blank look! She took a stubby screwdriver and showed me how you take off the foot plateā¦and lo and behold, there was enough wooly fabric sluff-off from my sewing to knit a cardigan for a mouse! Tamra whisked the material out with a little brushā¦put the plate back onā¦chaneged the needle and the machine ran straight stitch! It was like a miracle for me! I am so grateful for her extra care. And she saved me service fees of over $300 for both my machines. The machines are running great with a little maintenance. Tamra has made me a customer for life! Thank you Tamra for your extra care and teaching of me (āa simple sewerā). I am so...
