J Brooks Jewelers — Local services in Murray

Looking for the perfect ring for your soon to be fiancée can be rather difficult, especially when you don’t know the anything about diamonds, let alone jewelry in general. When looking for a ring, I wanted two things for my experience:

A local company who I could support and trust Someone who could teach me things along the way

J Brooks Jewelers did just that. I came across J Brooks while doing research on local jewelers in the Salt Lake City area. I decided it was best to bring in my soon to be fiancée as well so I could capture best what she wanted. Being nervous about what to expect, knowing that I knew nothing about what I was getting myself into, I was instantly calmed as I was welcomed as I walked in the door by both John and Jamie Brooks. I might add that we were “those people” showing up right before closing too, both didn’t bat an eye and were going to help us out no matter how long they had to stay late.

Jamie sat us both down and went through their wide range of bands, engagement rings and talked about all of the different types of options we could include. We tried a number of rings on and settled on 4 rings which we would essentially take certain parts for and combine into the perfect ring. We left the store for the night and I came back without my then girlfriend to get all the juicy details.

My second interaction with Jamie was fantastic as well. Both her and John brought out diamonds for me to look at and explained all the differences between them. We even went to the length of them saying they could special order anything that I thought would be the perfect combination. After custom building the ring, it was now time to actually pick the diamond. I waited until the third time to pick that. I wanted something special and nothing had yet caught my eye.

Returning for a third time, it was the same experience. Jamie had brought in a number of different diamonds which were around the price point I was looking for. As soon as she brought out the “one’, I knew I needed it. We finished up all of our ordering and now just had to wait two weeks to get our order.

Jamie was great at explaining everything surrounding payment procedures. Whether it was cash or payment plans, she made sure I was aware of all of the things I could do. With the ring completed all that needed to be done was to ask the special woman. Jamie checked back a few days later to see how things went, and I replied that she said yes with some pictures.

My overall experience with J Brooks was fantastic. For a first time jewelry buyer, it could not have been better. Thank you Jamie and John for making my special day perfect. You two helped so much on making sure what we purchased was quality and something to always remember.

We will be coming back to J Brooks for our wedding bands and further jewelry purchases...

I don't think I could've had a better experience here. I visited several stores before this, and this place was by far the best. I spent hours in the store and talking to Jamie via text. I could type a novel based on how much help she gave me, but here's the short version:

I walked in not really knowing what I wanted. Jamie taught me about diamonds (4 C's, etc.) She showed me about 100 diamonds before I asked about a completely different shape that I saw on the internet (Asscher). She then said "Oh I love those!" and let me handle HER PERSONAL ENGAGEMENT RING to ogle at because hers is an Asscher. She showed me a couple Asschers but noted that they are rarer and didn't have many in stock. She called their only other location in Orem and Mrs. Brooks down there PERSONALLY DROVE UP to Murray to show me another Asscher. I fell in love with this last diamond. Jamie worked with all my nitpicky desires to custom design a ring that was EXACTLY what I asked for (very thin band, softened knife edge, "Tiffany-like" setting, squared prong faces, pointed prong finish, etc.)

I NEVER felt rushed. I NEVER felt pressured. I got a great price (yes, actually great. I would've paid more elsewhere, even places with worse customer service.) I legitimately feel like Jamie is a little bit "my family", which is the feeling I like to get from smaller family stores like this jeweler. I am planning to go back for our wedding bands, and I can't wait to add that experience to my review.

UPDATE 7 MONTHS LATER: I have just finished ordering our wedding bands, and Jamie is as helpful as ever. We designed a custom wedding band for her, and Jamie worked with our desires and had her goldsmith create fully-modelled renderings based on my drawings and verbal requests. She then had them mold the ring, and they are in the process of polishing it up and setting the small diamonds in the band. I am a detail freak, and this family is delivering exactly what I ask for. I will update the review again with pictures when our bands are finished. Also, we told them to prioritize ours last because we aren't getting married for another year or longer. So don't mind the large time gap. I'm sure they can do quick...

I love J Brooks Jewelers. While it is one of the smaller jewelers in the area, the quality of their products and service far exceeds that of the others in the area.

I first discovered J Brooks while searching for an Engagement ring with my wife. We had actually found other settings which she liked from other jewelers, but ended up returning them because she just wasn't in love with those rings. We saw J Brooks while driving down the road and decided to go in and see what they had to offer. It didn't take my wife long to discover the unique setting in their collection which became her engagement ring. Once found, she left it to me and the family at J Brooks to figure out which diamond to put in the ring. We spent what felt like hours looking through different diamonds until we found the one that made the ring POP. And POP it does... Rarely does a day go by where my wife isn't stopped on the street and asked where she got her ring and told how shiny and beautiful it is. For me, my joy is found in those quiet moments when I walk into a room (now a few years later) and I still catch her admiring her ring on her hand.

This hasn't been my only experience at Brooks. Last year, my wife lost one of the diamond studs given to her when her first child was born. Until that happened, I didn't know a day where she wasn't wearing those earrings. For Christmas I took the remaining diamond stud to J Brooks to see if I could find something of similar size to replace the lost treasure. As always, the J Brooks family worked with me to find just the right set of diamond studs that would not only replace her treasure, but would also compliment the shine and glimmer of her wedding ring.

Finally, I recently bent my wedding band and took it to J Brooks to have them re-round the ring and clean up the finish. When I dropped my ring off they let me know it would be 7-10 days before it would be fixed and returned. But it was literally 2 days later that they called me and I had my repaired rings back.
