I'd like to start of by saying I am not a Floridian. I am from Illinois and recently came down to Jacksonville for work. I will be in the Jacksonville area for a minimum of 2 months, and if the job goes well, then Florida will be my new home. That being said, I spent over 10 hours over the last week trying to get a prescription filled. Every pharmacy I went to, CVS, other walgreens and publix, just said they didn't have the medicine, some gave me the cold shoulder and none of them offered any advice or help. On top of the 10 hours I spent navigating pharmacies in a brand new state, I also was working at a new job location. Today when I went to the Neptune Beach walgreens, the pharmacist there was extremely nice and actually offered to help. I felt confident enough to leave my prescription with the Neptune Beach Walgreens. For the first time since i got to florida a week ago, i finally have hope that i will be able to get my medicines filled while im down here. Ive been terrified all week that i will have to fly back to chicago just to get my medications filled. I have enough stress with being and working in a new state, that finally finding a pharmacist willing to help with my medications was a big relief. If all goes well, the Neptune Beach Walgreens will be my go to for my prescription needs while I'm down here!
Update- On 11/24- After some mishaps on behalf of my Dr.'s office and much back and forth between the Dr. And walgreens I was finally able to get my meds filled 5 days after i dropped my script off.
I downgraded my rating from 5-4, because of my experience when I picked up my meds. The pharmacist that was at walgreens when I originally dropped off my script wasn't there, and I still had a very positive experience with him when I dropped off my scripts. However when I picked up my scripts, the person who handed me my scripts and verified my ID definitely stereotyped me.
Not everyone is an addict and some people are on medication to treat actual medical issues and to stereotype everyone on a particular medication is not professional, and it is not ok. I expect more from the Healthcare profession, pharmacists included. I don't know the depth of the issues in florida with addiction and people taking advantage of the system. However, Healthcare professionals, pharmacists included, need to treat everyone with compassion And shouldn't show bias towards everyone taking a specific medication. Automatically stereotyping someone who has no red flags in the system, or hasn't raised any red flags is unprofessional and is degrading to the person you are sterotyping. People who work in Healthcare and who can't be un-biased, need to find a field outside of Healthcare to work in.
Without my medication and current treatment plan, I wouldn't be where I'm at today. 2 years ago, my life was a mess and my work performance and relationships were strained. I was super depressed, felt like a failure and I was at risk of being put on a performance plan. 2 years into my treatment for my neurodiversity and I'm now in Florida on a stretch management assignment and being considered for a promotion. My life has taken a complete 180 degree turn since my diagnosis and treatment. Moral of the story is, don't judge people you know nothing about, all you do is give Healthcare professionals a bad reputation.
I still highly regard the pharmacist I dealt with last sunday 11/19 and will try to work with him for all my pharmacological needs while...
Read moreWitnessed a young racialized woman be treated terribly tonight by the cashier who as it turns out was also a manager. Her finger had been very badly cut in the door of Walgreens. She asked for a first aid kit was told none were available (??!!) which 1) can’t be legal and 2) does Walgreens not SELL them? She offered nothing but a paper towel and a bandaid which were completely inadequate to the situation - she was profusely bleeding. She then asked for hydrogen peroxide, was IGNORED, had to ask repeatedly and was finally waved to go look for it herself!! I paid for my order and the cashier had the nerve to turn to my daughter and I and say “how are you ladies tonight?” I said “we are fine how are YOU?” She says she’s great and rolled her eyes and said “she hurt her hand in the door”. I could not leave this young woman on her own with one hand unable to bandage her hand herself as in the otherwise EMPTY store two employees were indifferently ignoring the situation. My daughter and went to find her and found her in the first aid section, distressed and on the phone telling someone her hand was messed up and she would need to get some cash. I asked if she needed help and said I could pay for whatever she needed and help her bandage her hand. We went back to the cash and only when I asked the female employee/evening supervisor or whatever she was for the head office number and said that no one was helping this young woman and expecting her to pay for materials to bandage her hand was appalling and negligent did she say she would “expense” the materials. It was quite clear from her previous manner she had had NO intention of doing so until she had two white women confronting her She tried to tell my daughter she “couldn’t leave the cash” and we pointed out there were NO other customers in the store, neither she nor the other employee were busy and she kept trying insist he had been busy with another customer which was simply untrue - I had kept looking over at both of them incredulous about the total lack of empathy. We ended up spending an hour outside helping this lovely young woman bandage her finger and get calm before driving home as she was clearly traumatized by the incident and we were concerned...
Read moreAny reviews above 2 stars are likely employees the complaints are very consistently the Pharmacy, and the manager, the cashiers are great super friendly
Horrible place, really a lot to do with just an obvious lack of caring, not from the cashiers but the pharmacy, now the cashiers have their issues also, but the pharmacy department needs to just be replaced, I have dealt with them three times 2 times simple questions dealing with over the counter medications dealing with sinuses wanting to know if they were dangerous to mix I waited in the consultantion while they dealt very rudely with an elderly lady who had questions about her prescription, before I got there one of the other girls came from behind the counter and said the woman was busy but saw what I was holding and sent her to tell me what to get I niavely accepted this answer assuming she knew what she was doing she didn't the meds made me feel sick and did not help at all in the end, so now I am trying to get antibiotics that I unfortunately sent there from the sinus infection I devoloped while wasting my time with them, only to find out the pharmacy is closed, sucks but okay so I ask where I can get my prescription moved to and if they could help, possibly the manger responded rudely that there pharmacy is closed, so I asked again are there any other options he is aware of, and he then said no all pharmacies are closed, I ask well what about for people needed stuff like insulin are they just supposed to wait we are a large city I feel like possibly one was open somewhere. He stood looking stupid for a moment with some hipster chick and bigger red haired girl beside him and then realized that what I said well I guess just Walgreens are closed then. Still offering no further help.
If Walgreens wants to be like family dollar that's fine but they need to close their pharmacies, they are just not competent enough atleast at this location, I will go to CVS...
