There is so much that I could say about my experience with this salon. I came to the loft after having a string of very bad experiences with my long black hair. Someone else had done highlights for me, and really damaged my hair with a very inappropriate color. I still wanted volume and lift so I contacted The Loft to see if I could get a perm done, and was told they had one hairdresser who could do that for me.
I had a consultation booked with Kenedie, met her for the consultation, instantly fell in love with her, and set up my appointment for the following week.
Kenedie is not only skilled as a hairdresser, and very careful and precise with her work, she’s also a lovely human being with a heart of gold, a brilliant smile, and a warmth about her that made me feel like I had met a good friend.
Nice aside, I was super happy with the results. My hair has volume and left exactly how I wanted, but the damage has surely been done. With poor quality work that I walked into The Loft with, combined with the perm that I had done there. So, I will be seeing a lot more of Kenedie as she and I journey along in the process of restoring my hair to a much healthier condition. I knew this was gonna happen, but I was willing to take the chance, and I was grateful that Kenedie was willing to take the chance with me.
I’ve been so unimpressed with the hairdressers for so long in New Orleans, that I had just about given up hope. The Loft was recommended to me as a place where each hairdresser relies on all the rest to make sure that the steps they take are the proper and appropriate safe steps for each client’s hair. It’s really an interesting concept. Instead of competing with each other, they share in a collaboration that as clients we benefit from. How perfect is that?
The Loft is also a woman owned business, and she seems to be around quite a bit.
I’m just so grateful and impressed with Kenedie as a person and certainly as a hairdresser. I now feel that I have found the right person to entrust my hairstyle and my hair care to.
Many big giant thanks to The Loft, and to Kenedie, my hair’s very best friend and a hairdresser who I will be keeping my relationship with indefinitely. I highly recommend The Loft Salon, as well as Kenedie to anybody seeking a very good hair care...
Read moreI am new to the city and had worked really hard with my with fine, thin and fragile hair to grow it get it to a healthy place. I waited 12 weeks since my last colour and cut to move forward with this new stylist. I was going to try extensions and was excited for the new experience, they cost me $500+ at the consultation.
I went in for my first colour/highlights looking for a nice, age appropriate blend to mix with what I had been building with a former stylist (some white coming in around my face, my natural brown and highlights. The stylist used a product they had never used before on a client, it turned my hair greenie-grey. I lost all the previous highlight texture and color in my hair. They knew that the work was not satisfactory and suggested I go home and if I "couldn't live with it" they would correct it. Including a couple products, the bill was over $300.
I was very displeased with the result. I returned the following week to give the stylist an opportunity to fix it, for clarity I brought a picture this time to be certain the color desired was understood. They used a colour remover and it stripped color from my hair. Proceeded to re-highlight, low-light and tone my hair which turned out yellow with pink/purple spots from the color stripper which I noticed in the sun in the car on my way home, I turned around and went back to the salon. Another application of highlights, added more low lights and re-toned my hair. It was 5-6 hours total spent at the salon and it still looks yellow, not the whiter tones I wanted to blend with my incoming white around my face. I went home to sleep on it and the next morning was devastated by the results. It is now broken to an inch long all around my face, there is a clear "ring" around my face of different colors and it still has yellow, pink/purple and green undertones.
I don't understand how this happened - I guess I wouldn't recommend this salon if you have complex fragile hair like I do. I now have keep this look for the next 10-12 weeks since it's so damaged I can't do anything to repair the color or the breakage.
I was really hoping it would have been a great experience, sadly that's not how...

I visited this salon after making an appointment with the owner Maritza, to have my hair colored (Balayage). The salon is very nice with modern decor. Parking is available but at a charge of $3/hour.
Warning!!!! Everything regarding a hair appointment is a la carte. The Balayage hair coloring is $175, but you must pay $50 for blow drying and $25 toner. These extra prices (toner and blow drying) are not on their website or on their brochure. I was told of these charges as I sat in the chair for the appointment. Total bait and switch!
I was willing to give the stylist a chance to impress me, since the prices I was being charged, indicated a special experience. I brought in multiple photos for the hair color I wanted. The final result was not even close! A Balayage treatment should have resulted in a range of highlists with a pattern of lighter color toward the ends. I ended up with my same hair color and just random streaks of colors in patches.
I told Maritza that I did not like the result. Everyone in the shop heard me and knew that I was displeased. She said it would get better with washing a few times. I again reiterated that the resul was terrible. She tried to convince me that it looked fine, despite not being anything close to the pictures I brought in. Then Maritza proceeded to say, it was because my original hair color was dark brown and that if I came back for 2-3 more colorings, she should be able to get the right look.
Wow! Are you kidding me? She expected me to pay $250 for 2 or 3 more appointments before she "might" be able to get it right.. She did not even, offer to fix it at a future or comp the screw up that just happended. She gave me a 10% discount card on a future appointment. Then she showed me to the cash register and her receptionist charge me $250. Then, he had the nerve to ask if I was leaving a tip. What a joke!
Sometimes people make mistakes, but a professional owns up to their mistakes and tries to do the right thing make it right for their customers. I would not recommend this...
