First off, phenomenal service story: I was stuck at home with wife, covid. My elder mother in law tried to order door dash for us but got the apartment number wrong and the date so she called the store. Lss, Shelby thr manager told her not to worry and that he was personally delivering it to us. He did, and brought us a delicious hibiscus tea as well. For the technologically challenged like my mother in law this was such a big and helpful show of service. 10 out of 5 stars.
Now for the food. Fresh, check. Quality of ingredients, check. Flavors were also great. Covid took a little of my ability to taste but these flavors came through. We got salads and quinoa bowls (pictured)
Because of the outstanding service and quality of the ingredients I really want this newer place to succeed so I am dropping some feedback that aren't that big a deal, but it is what I can offer this otherwise lovely meal. Both are about the salad.
Delivery salad should usually come with dressing on side. Unless you're getting it quickly and eating it right away it can make some of the elements soggy. Most of this salad held up. I wasn't able to eat it for an hour after delivery, would have preferred some dressing. I'm sure that's an option on door dash, but in case it isn't I recommend asking.
3rd picture attached was a romaine base that should be discarded in all cases. I don't know anyone that eats the bottom of a lettuce.
That said, this place will continue to have...
Read moreThe Daily Beet does what it aspires to do very well - and maybe I shouldn’t knock it for not doing what it’s not trying to do. But it’s gotta lose some points on ideological consistency.
As a health food restaurant, it does something I wish more places did - serve delicious food and actually provide the darn macros (unfortunately only online but a minor inconvenience). The food is consistently good and the portions are large and filling without jumping off the page in calories.
However, it seems odd to me that it bills itself as vegan friendly yet serves animal products. Eggs aren’t the only thing on the menu - smoked salmon is also available. But no other fish. I personally find this strange. The major nutrition problem this place doesn’t address is the protein deficiency in its meals, and the solution is right there, yet they seem unwilling to fully embrace it. I’m not saying you need to add chicken breast (though that would improve many dishes in my mind) - just serve some tuna or tilapia or something as an option for those of us who need 40-50g of protein in a meal. If the salmons there it’s clearly not an ideological problem, so what gives?
Anyway, the food is really good, and the prices are very fair, and the service is fast, if minimalistic by design. I do recommend the daily beet, I just wish I had a way to fit it into my personal diet more...
Read moreI went to the Daily Beet every morning for 3 days because it was the closest place that I could grab something vegan to eat relatively early in the day before attending a conference. Tbh I originally expected more vegan options based on previous reviews. Vegan breakfast options are limited to an acai bowl, avocado toast (modified to be vegan) and smoothies. Better than nothing, but it's too bad they don't have the option to substitute eggs for tofu in some of the dishes. The smoothies are pretty good and have a vegan protein add on. If you're going later in the day, the bowls sounded good.
All of that said, if there were other options in the area that I was aware of, then I probably wouldn't have returned. I found the service to be mostly unfriendly. Two of the days I went, Thurs and Fri, the person who took my order didn't seem like she wanted to answer my questions and rushed me through ordering even though there was no one else in line and no one else waiting for food that I could see. The first time she rushed off before I could even ask for a receipt. If the food and atmosphere experience matters to you, and you're grabbing a later breakfast, then I would suggest trying somewhere...
